CORNELL DEFEATS WOMEN'S TENNIS

Ithaca, N.Y. – Cornell University registered a 7-0 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team in non-conference action on Wednesday at the Reis Tennis Center.

The Big Red claimed the first point of the day as Emma Baker and Alexandra Savu defeated Le Moyne junior Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) and freshman Adelie Wilson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) in No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-0, while Cornell's Sage Loudon and Michelle Ryndin recorded a 6-2 win over sophomore Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and graduate Feriel Mahbouli (Tunis, Tunisia/Lycee 36/South Carolina State) in the first position.

In singles competition, Savu bested Casares 6-0, 6-1 in the third position, Jenny Wong registered a 6-2, 6-0 win over Fernando in the No. 2 spot, and Victoria Zhao clinched the match win for Cornell with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mahbouli in No. 1 singles.

The final three matches all went to a third set, and were decided in a tiebreaker to 10.

Seychelle Balog outlasted junior Alicia Alvarez (Madrid Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) in the fifth position by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. Le Moyne sophomore Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocoo/Descartes) also claimed the first set in her No. 6 match against Martina Marica, but Marica rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 win.

Tanya Fan won the final point of the day for Cornell with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 win over senior Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) at the fourth position.
Cornell improved to 10-4 on the year, and 6-1 at home with the win, while Le Moyne dropped to 7-8.

Le Moyne will play its final NEC match of the regular season on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against LIU at Elevate Fitness in Liverpool.
