BASEBALL WELCOMES BINGHAMTON FOR MIDWEEK MATCHUP

4/21/2025 2:21:00 PM

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College baseball team will return to Dick Rockwell Field for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference matchup against Binghamton University on Tuesday.

Le Moyne holds a 36-12 all-time record against Binghamton in baseball, dating back to the 1972 campaign. The two programs most recently met last season, with Binghamton claiming a 10-3 win over the Dolphins in Vestal.

Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and Tyler Campbell (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) both recorded a hit and an RBI during the setback.

Le Moyne (12-21, 11-7 NEC) most recently won one of three games in a conference series at Stonehill. The Dolphins recorded a 15-1 win over the Skyhawks in game one behind a dominant outing on the mound from graduate left-hander Max Parker (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). Parker tallied a career-high 14 strikeouts, which is tied for the fourth-most single game strikeouts in program history, while allowing just two hits, two walks and one run in 7.0 innings of work. Parker was credited with a complete-game victory as the Dolphins won the contest in seven innings via the run rule.

Cannon, Ethan Farina (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa/Saint Rose) and Derek Diaz (White Plains, N.Y./Iona Prep) recorded two hits and three RBIs each during the conference win.

Stonehill bounced back with a 5-4 win in game two, then claimed the series victory with a 10-7 win in game three.

Senior catcher/infielder Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) registered his first career multi-home run game in game three against the Skyhawks, launching a solo home run in the fifth and a three-run home run in the ninth to go along with a double in the fourth to finish the contest with a season-high four runs batted in and 10 total bases.

Sophomore catcher Cooper Romich (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) went 3 for 3 at the plate during the 10-7 loss, improving his season batting average to .382 through 19 games played. Romich's .436 batting average in 14 conference games played ranks third among all NEC hitters. Romich also leads Le Moyne in doubles on the year with eight.

Cannon has homered in each of the last three games that he has played in, giving him five on the year, which ties him for the team lead in the category with freshman infielder Tim Denet (West Harrison, N.Y./Iona Prep) and senior outfielder Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva).

Cannon has recorded a team-high 25 RBIs through 24 games played and 21 starts with a .303 batting average and team-high .592 slugging percentage. He is also stolen 11 bases on 14 attempts. Cannon is currently on a 13-game hitting streak, which began almost one month ago in game one of the UMass Lowell series.

Campbell is close behind in the RBI category with 22 via a team-high 29 hits, while Denet and Patchett lead the team in runs scored with 24 and 22, respectively.

Ries holds a .308 batting average and .471 on-base percentage with 19 RBIs, 17 runs, 28 hits and 20 walks through 29 games played.

Junior outfielder Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon/Finger Lakes Community College) has recorded a team-high 14 stole bases on the year. In his 17 conference starts, Goodness has stolen 12 bases on 13 attempts, which ties him for third in the league.

On the mound, redshirt-senior right-hander Billy Hoffacker (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek/Rowan College of South Jersey) and redshirt-junior right-hander Steven Free (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) have both started a midweek contest this season for the Dolphins.

Hoffacker, who has made 10 relief appearances this season to go along with one start against Canisius on March 25, has recently recorded back-to-back scoreless long relief outings.

He recorded his second win of the season during a 6-4 win over Delaware State on April 12, allowing just one hit, one walk and zero runs with five strikeouts over the final 4.0 innings, then tossed 3.0 innings with two hits, zero walks and zero runs allowed with three strikeouts in 3.0 innings in game two of the Stonehill series.

Graduate right-hander Joel Connors (Brampton, Ontario/Heart Lake/Lakeland Community College/St. Andrew's/St. Bonaventure) and junior righty Luke Connors (Brampton, Ontario/Heart Lake/Monroe Community College) have both appeared out of the bullpen in both of the team's midweek games.

Joel Connors holds a 1.58 WHIP with a 2-0 record and one save in a team-high 11 relief appearances this season, his first with the Dolphins.

Binghamton currently sits in fourth in the America East standings with an 8-7 conference record. The Bearcats were picked to finish second in the league's Preseason Poll, while catcher Zach Rogacki, third baseman Devin Bade, designated hitter Evin Sullivan, and relief pitcher Jackson Mitchell were each voted to the Preseason All-Conference Team.

Binghamton compiled a 10-14 record in conference play during the 2024 season, and were eliminated by NJIT in the America East Tournament.

Bade and Sullivan were America East First Team All-Conference honorees last season, while Mitchell was an All-Rookie Team selection.

Binghamton is 18-17 overall this season, and has won each of its last four games with an 8-5 win over Cornell on April 15, followed by a conference sweep against NJIT over the weekend.

Second baseman Zack Kent tallied four RBIs during a 7-6 win over NJIT in game one, Bade and Sullivan combined for nine RBIs and five runs scored during a 13-6 win in game two, and outfielder Todd Abraham drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth in game three to lift the Bearcats to an 8-7 walk-off victory.

On the year, Sullivan (.323), Bade (.338), graduate infielder Freddy Forgione (.339), Rogacki (.357), and freshman outfielder Matt Bolton (.371) are each batting above .300 for the Bearcats.

Binghamton ranks first in the America East in team batting average (.289), on-base percentage (.404), slugging percentage (.466), home runs (44), fielding percentage (.976) and walks (176).

Bolton is tied for first among America East players in hits with 52, while Sullivan and Bade both rank in the top five for home runs with nine and eight, respectively.

Redshirt-junior left-handed pitcher Caden Rothbaum has started on the mound for Binghamton in each of its last three midweek contests, tossing 2.0 innings in each outing.

Rothbaum recorded two scoreless innings with three strikeouts during his last start against Cornell, then graduate right-hander Ryan Packard collected his third win of the season after allowing one run in 2.0 innings in relief.

Packard has tossed a team-high 42.2 innings this season through 11 appearances on the mound, including nine starts.

Redshirt-freshman right-hander Ben Griffith has made a team-high 12 relief appearances this season for the Bearcats and holds a 3-0 record with a 1.97 WHIP.

Sophomore Jake Dally has made 11 relief appearances for Binghamton, totaling 15 strikeouts in 12.0 innings of work. Dally allowed zero hits and zero runs with three strikeouts in 1.1 innings against Cornell.

Binghamton is led by Tim Sinicki, who is in his 33rd season at the helm of the program.

Following Tuesday's midweek matchup at Binghamton, Le Moyne will head to Coppin State University for a Northeast Conference series from April 25-27.
