Syracuse, N.Y. – Le Moyne College rising sophomore
Lucas Clay (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) of the men's swimming and diving team has qualified for the USA Swimming Toyota U.S. Open Championships.
The Championships will be held December 3-6 in Austin, Texas.
Clay qualified for the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:02.97 on July 18 at the Niagara Swimming Long Course Championships. Clay's time ranks in the top-75 nationally and near the top-300 worldwide. His time is about three-quarters of a second off the Olympic Trials cut time from 2024.
During his first year on the Heights, he earned a silver (200-yard) and a bronze (100-yard) medal in the breaststroke events at the NEC Championship to go with a fifth-place finish (500-yard freestyle). He registered 15 top-two finishes during the dual meet season, including nine wins.
