MEN’S BASKETBALL RALLIES FOR 69-67 VICTORY OVER WAGNER

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior swingman Tennessee Rainwater (Davenport, Wash./Davenport/Utah Tech) recorded his first career double-double and redshirt junior guard Trent Mosquera (Boston, Mass./Belmont Hill School) tipped in the go-ahead basket with 40.9 seconds left as the Le Moyne College men's basketball team rallied for a 69-67 win over Wagner College on Friday night in NEC action at Ted Grant Court.

Rainwater finished with career highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, while adding four steals. He recorded 14 of his points and seven rebounds in the second half, while finishing the game 13-of-15 from the foul line. His 13 made free throws and 15 free throw attempts are both the most by a Dolphin since Qwadere Lovell '15 made 14 in 17 attempts against American International College on February 21, 2015. Mosquera finished the contest with 23 points, including 17 in the second half, five rebounds (four offensive) and four assists. Rainwater and Mosquera are the first Dolphin duo to each record at least 23 points since Luke Sutherland (26) and Kaiyem Cleary (23) at Sacred Heart on February 3, 2024. Redshirt sophomore guard Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) posted 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Nick Jones led four Seahawks in double figures with 13 points, while adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Eddie Placer went 4-of-4 from three-point range for 12 points. Syracuse-native Travis Gray tallied 11 points, while Bryan Akanmu turned in a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

The Dolphins opened the game with the first seven points, including a four-point play by Mosquera, while the Seahawks countered with the next seven and 18 of the next 20 to take an 18-9 lead with 11:14 remaining in the first half. Jones scored five of the first nine points of the run, while five others combined for the other 13 points.

Le Moyne, specifically Rainwater, answered back with the next 11 points to regain the lead.

Following a three-pointer by Gray to give the lead back to Wagner, Le Moyne scored seven consecutive points. Mosquera made two free throws and Garang converted a lay-up and then buried a three-pointer for a 27-21 lead with 4:04 remaining in the half.

Wagner closed out the half with a 13-2 run to take a 34-29 lead at the intermission. Binael Basil scored the first five points, John Awoke and Placer drilled three-pointers and then Akanmu capped the half's scoring with a lay-up with 32 seconds left.

The Dolphins opened the second half with seven of the first 10 points to close within 37-36. Garang made two free throws and a three-pointer around a jumper by Mosquera.

The Seahawks pushed their lead back to five with 16:17 left with lay-ups by Jones and Akanmu around three-pointers from Gray and Mosquera.

Following just four points by Wagner over the next 5:09 to put the Seahawks up 48-39 with 11:08 left, the Dolphins rattled off 11 of the next 13 points to even the score at 50. Freshman guard Eli Greenberg (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) started the run with a three-pointer, Mosquera answered a Basil jumper with a three-pointer, Rainwater had a dunk and then Mosquera drained another three-pointer to tie the score.

Akanmu answered back 33 seconds later to start a 14-5 run for a 64-55 lead with 4:41 remaining. Jones and Placer each followed with six points.

Le Moyne tallied 14 of the next 17 points to win the game. Rainwater made two free throws and then Mosquera made two of his own. Following a Wagner made free throw, Rainwater converted a lay-up and then made two free throws 59 seconds later to close within two. Basil answered with a lay-up with 1:40 left for Wagner's final points.

After a Le Moyne timeout, Rainwater posted a conventional three-point play with 1:21 left to make it a one-point game. After a missed shot by the Seahawks, Mosquera tipped in his own miss with 40.9 seconds left for a 68-67 lead.

Wagner missed a lay-up on its next possession with 10 seconds left and Rainwater grabbed the rebound. Following two missed free throws by the Dolphins with six seconds left, Gray grabbed the rebound and drew a foul with 5.4 seconds left. Gray missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Le Moyne was awarded the rebound with 3.7 seconds left. Rainwater then drew a foul with 2.8 seconds to go and made one of two free throws.

The Seahawks had one final possession with 2.2 seconds left, but Jones' runner as time expired was short.

Le Moyne (10-10, 5-2 NEC) is back in action on Monday at FDU at 6:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, but was postponed a day due to expected inclement weather on Sunday.
