MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS AT MERCYHURST, 74-60

Erie, Pa. – Bernie Blunt III recorded 18 points to lead Mercyhurst University to a 74-60 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in NEC action on Sunday afternoon at Owen McCormick Court.

Graduate student forward Shilo Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Vincennes/Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) led the Dolphins offensively in the setback with 17 points, while adding six rebounds (five offensive). Redshirt junior guard Trent Mosquera (Boston, Mass./Belmont Hill School) recorded eight of his 11 points in the first half, while grabbing seven rebounds and posting three steals. Redshirt sophomore guard Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) and sophomore guard Jakai Sanders (Brooklyn, N.Y./Eagle Academy/Saint Peter's) each tallied 10 points. Junior guard Tennessee Rainwater (Davenport, Wash./Davenport/Utah Tech) grabbed a game-high and career high-tying nine rebounds.

Blunt III, a preseason all-conference selection, posted 10 of his points in the opening 10 and one-half minutes of the game. Jake Lemelman turned in 15 points, while Christian Gamble had 11 points. Mykolaus Ivanauskas tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.

Blunt scored the first five points of the game and 10 overall in the run as the Lakers jumped out to a 25-6 lead through the opening 10:24. Lemelman and Gamble each recorded five points in the stretch, while three players combined for the other five points.

Le Moyne countered with a 25-9 jaunt, including the final 10 points of the half, to get within 34-31 at the intermission. Mosquera led the run with eight points, including a three-pointer to start the span, Jackson and Sanders each scored six, Garang drilled a three-pointer and Rainwater had a lay-up.

The Dolphins scored nine of the first 13 points of the second half to take their first lead of the game. Garang buried a three-pointer, Jackson and Sanders had lay-ups to tie the score at 38 and then Jackson had a dunk for the lead with 16:42 left.

Following ties at 40, 42 and 44, Jackson made a jumper in the paint and junior guard Samuel Hincapie (Medellin, Colombia/Gateway Legacy Prep (Mo.)/Lake Land College) made a foul shot to give Le Moyne its largest lead of the game at 47-44 with 14:06 remaining.

Mercyhurst regained the lead by scoring the next eight points and 30 of the next 39 overall to blow the game open. Gamble and Qadir Martin alternated baskets in the 8-0 run. Blunt added a pair of three-pointers in the streak, Lemelman and Martin had four points and four other each had two points. Rainwater scored four of Le Moyne's nine points in the span.

Hincapie and Garang made lay-ups in the final 13 seconds to deliver the final score.
 
Le Moyne (6-9) plays at home for the first time in 47 days on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. against the University of New Haven. The Dolphins went 4-5 in its nine games during the six-week stretch of games away from Ted Grant Court.
