MEN'S GOLF PLACES FIFTH AT MATTHEWS AUTO COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

Apalachin, N.Y. – Third year Jacob Moody (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) tied for 13th place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational hosted by Binghamton University on Sunday and Monday at the par-72, 7104-yard The Links at Hiawatha Landing.

Bucknell University claimed the team championship by overcoming a seven-shot deficit to finish with a two-day total of 586 off rounds of 288 and 298. LaSalle placed second at 590 following scores of seven-under par 281 and 309. St. Bonaventure University jumped to third on Monday with a 297 after a 295 in the first round to end the invitational at 592. Le Moyne placed fifth with a 601 after rounds of 294 and 307. LaSalle's Gavin Dosch earned medalist honors with a five-under par total of 139 off rounds of five-under 67 and even-par 72.

Moody finished in a three-way tie for 13th place in the field of 87 competitors with a 36-hole total of 148, which featured four birdies and 26 pars, tied for the second-most in the invitational. He opened with a 73, including two birdies and 14 pars, to land in a six-way tie for 14th place. He then tallied a 75 in the second round, featuring two birdies and 12 pars to move up one place.

Second year Jacob Olearczyk (Barneveld, N.Y./Holland Patent) tied for 23rd place with a 151, which included eight birdies and 15 pars. He turned in a 75 on Sunday, featuring five birdies and seven pars, to end the day in an eight-way tie for 29th place. He recorded a 76 on day two, including three birdies and eight pars, to jump six positions on Monday.

Fourth year Owen Corby (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) finished in a six-way tie for 25th place with a 152, which featured an eagle, six birdies and 16 pars. He carded a 74 in the first round, which included one eagle, three birdies and eight pars, to finish in a nine-way tie for 20th place. He followed with a 78, featuring three birdies and eight pars.

Third years George Green (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) and Mac Quinn (Glenwood, N.Y./Canisius HS) finished in an 11-way tie for 34th place at 154.

Green finished with five birdies and 18 pars. He shot even-par 72 in the first round, which featured three birdies and 12 pars, to land in a four-way tie for 10th place. He registered two birdies and six pars to end the invitational in

Quinn tallied five birdies and 19 pars over the two days. He ended the first day in an 11-way tie for 37th place with a 76, which included two birdies and 11 pars. He then recorded a 76 in the second round, which featured three birdies and eight pars, to move up three places.

The Dolphins are back in action on Sunday for the first of three days at the Bucknell Fall Invitational.
