Syracuse, N.Y. – Le Moyne College softball's freshman pitcher Tatum Nessman (Calgary, Alberta / National Sport School) has been named the NEC Softball Rookie of the Week for her performance during the Dolphin's season-opening four-game set at the Blue Hose Invitational this past weekend.
Nessman worked to a 3.60 ERA in three appearances to begin her collegiate career over the weekend, including a 6.0 inning complete-game start against host Presbyterian College on Friday in which she allowed just two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two in the loss.
In the 'Phins lone win of the weekend, a 19-16, offensive gauntlet against Morehead State on Saturday, Nessman recorded the win after pitching 3.2 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks in relief.
Nessman is the first Le Moyne softball player to win NEC Rookie of the Week honors since current sophomore third baseman Cianna Benamati (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) on Apr. 15 last season.
Along with Nessman's recognition, sophomore middle infielder Maddie Martin (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) and junior utility player Shannon Gavigan (Havertown, Pa/Haverford) were both named NEC Prime Performers for their outings during the invite.
Martin slashed .600/.600/.600 in 10-at bats for a team-high 1.200 OPS. She also registered a team-high six total bases, scored three runs, and drove in one RBI. She added a team-best 3-3 mark in stolen base attempts and ranked second on the team with 14 put-outs through four games.
Gavigan went 4-12 at the plate for a .333 batting average with an .817 OPS. She recorded five total bases and drove in a team-high four RBIs while adding a pair of walks, one sac fly, one stolen base, and coming around to score three times.
