Latham, N.Y. – Siena University rallied during singles to record a 4-3 win over the Le Moyne College men's tennis team on Saturday night at Tri-City Fitness.
Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead in the match by claiming the point in the doubles competition. At the top spot, freshman
Carlo Zucchini (Varese, Italy/European School of Varese) and sophomore
Navya Verma (Patiala, India/Apollo Public School) registered a 6-3 win over Mars Argun and Emilio Zavala Salinas. Sviatoslav Koliadynskyi and Matteo Castellazzi evened doubles at one apiece with a 6-4 victory at the second position over sophomore
Luke Hoyland (Sheffield, England/Birkdale School) and freshman
Gabriel Segubiense (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements). Sophomores
Callum Matthew (Dorset, England/Highcliffe School) and
Lorenzo Bortolaso (Bassano del Grappa, Italy/IT IS Enrico Fermi) clinched the point with a 7-6 (8-6) victory over Mateja Stefanovic and Bruno Loch Varella at the third spot.
Siena four the bottom four spots in the singles competition to capture the victory. Zucchini pushed Le Moyne's lead to two with back-to-back scores of 6-3 over Stefanovic at the top spot. Matthew alternated scores of 6-0 to defeat Koliadynskyi at the second position, 6-0, 0-6, 6-0.
At the third spot, Argun tallied a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Hoyland. Loch Varella was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Bortolaso at the fourth position. Castellazzi claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the fifth spot over Segubiense. Zavala Salinas clinched the match with consecutive scores of 6-3 to defeat Verma at the sixth position.
Le Moyne (1-3) plays its final home match of the season on Tuesday against Mercyhurst University at 11:30 a.m. at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt.
