CORNELL RECORDS 7-0 WIN OVER WOMEN’S TENNIS

Ithaca, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team registered a 7-0 win over Le Moyne College on Wednesday at the Reis Tennis Center.
 
The Big Red started the match by collecting the point in the doubles competition. Victoria Zhao and Tanya Fan earned the first win, 6-1, at the third position over senior Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes). Martina Marica and Michelle Ryndin clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at the top spot over junior Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey). Emma Baker and Dylan Gelber had a 5-1 lead at the second position over seniors Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) when the point was clinched.

Cornell won each match in the singles competition in straight sets. Fan defeated Alvarez, 6-1, 6-0, at the sixth spot for the first win. Gelber followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the third position over Simeonova. Ryndin clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sanchez Jimenez at the top spot. Marica recorded back-to-back scores of 6-3 at the fifth position over Raiss. Sage Loudon was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Fernando at the second spot. Baker completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the fourth position over Casares.
 
Le Moyne (1-9) completes its non-conference schedule on Sunday at Oswego State at 2:00 p.m.
