Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne women's soccer team earned its first conference win of the season on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field with a 3-1 victory over Delaware State during Senior Day. Kaitlyn Gilhooly picked up a goal and an assist. Emma Sousa scored twice in the contest. Mikayla McPheron made five saves.

It took less than 10 minutes for Le Moyne to find the back of the net as sophomore forward Kaitlyn Gilhooly (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) converted the first shot of the game, breaking a two-game goalless streak for the Dolphins. Junior forward Alivia Day (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and senior midfielder Giovanna Vigliotti (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) recorded the assists. At 22:01, Sousa doubled the lead, assisted by Gilhooly. Junior Le Moyne goalkeeper Mikayla McPheron (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) wasn't called into action until the 27th minute, and wasn't needed again in the half due to the 'Phins defense. Le Moyne had eight shots in the half, forcing two saves from the Delaware State goalie.
The Dolphins opened the second half with four shots in less than five minutes. McPheron made two saves at 54:12 and 57:18 to hold the scoreline at 2-0, where it remained until the 82nd minute. The Hornets' Thalia Garcia put Delaware State on the board, narrowing the lead to one. Two minutes later, Sousa knocked in her second as a Hornets' defender's attempted clearance went off her face at 84:36. The Dolphins managed to protect their lead through the final five minutes, earning their first conference win and second overall win of the season.
'Phins Highlights:
McPheron made five saves in the contest, with four in the second half. The 'Phins outshot the Hornets 22-13. Gilhooly and Sousa led the offensive efforts, recording 11 combined shots, five on goal and all three goals. Freshman midfielder Lucia Devito (Gansevoort, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) had three shots, and Day and freshman back Ellie McMahon (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) both had two.
