Falcons Clinch Third Seed with 9-0 Sweep of Le Moyne

WALTHAM, Mass. - Bentley College posted an impressive 9-0 win over Le Moyne in Northeast-10 women's tennis action Thursday afternoon. The win moved the Falcons to 10-11 overall and 9-2 in the NE-10 and earned Bentley the third seed in the upcoming NE-10 tournament which begins Wednesday April 19th. The Dolphins fell to 9-6 overall and 7-4 in the NE-10 with the loss and moved into a three-way tie for fourth place in the NE-10 standings.
        The match began with the Dolphins just a game behind Bentley in the NE-10 standings. Freshmen Emily Bedrosian (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) and Katherine Giambalvo (Fairfield, Conn./Lauralton Hall) posted an 8-3 win at top flight doubles, which was followed by freshman Heather Haggerty (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) and sophomore Kelly Nugent (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) earning an 8-4 win at number two. Freshmen Julia Khomitch (Newton, Mass./Newton South) and Marcia Gilbride (Topsham, Maine/Mount Ararat) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at number three.
        Singles play continued in the same fashion with the Falcons rolling through the Dolphin lineup. Khomitch turned in a dominating 6-1, 6-0 performance at top flight singles, while Bedrosian was able to win 6-4, 6-2 at number two. Haggerty (6-3, 6-2) and Gilbride (6-3, 6-4) continued the stellar Bentley play with straight set wins at number three and four singles. The match was closed out with a pair of abbreviated one set flights as the outcome of the match had already been decided. Nugent won 8-5 at number five, while Giambalvo played the closest match of the afternoon at number six beating Hanna Renna (Nimoa, N.Y.) 9-7.
        Bentley closes out its NE-10 regular season schedule by hosting Saint Rose on Saturday at 1:00, while Le Moyne does not resume play until the NE-10 Quarterfinals on Wednesday.
