Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday afternoon by recording its eighth straight victory after defeating Adelphi, 8-1, in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Henninger Athletic Center.
Sophomore Daniel Sullivan (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn), the reigning Northeast-10 Conference player of the week, registered a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Bandar Kayali at first singles. Classmate Brian Rice (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Anton Voynov at second singles. The duo defeated the tandem of Kayali and Voynov by a score of 8-6 at first doubles.
Sophomore James Shelp (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) was victorious at third singled by downing Joseph Carbone 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Andrew Gleason (Gorham, Maine/Cheverus) defeated Adrish Tewarie at fourth singles after Tewarie had to retire with Gleason leading 6-4, 1-3. The classmates teamed to beat Leonard Bruno and Gaetan Georges 9-8 (7-4) in second doubles action.
Sophomore Joseph Persia (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) picked up the win at fifth singles over Georges by taking the first set, 6-4, falling 1-6 in the second set and winning the third set 10-4. Sophomore Cameron Smith (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) recorded an 8-3 victory over Bruno in sixth singles. Carbone and Tewarie registered Adelphi's only point by edging Persia and classmate Michael Green (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) 8-5 at third doubles.
Le Moyne (9-9), which clinched the fourth seed in next week's Northeast-10 Conference Championship, will host the Panthers in a first round match on Tuesday afternoon.
