WOMEN'S TENNIS SPLITS FINAL TWO REGULAR SEASON MATCHES AGAINST ADELPHI AND NEW HAVEN

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior Tirzah Walrath (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) picked up a pair of singles victories and team on a doubles victory to lead the Le Moyne College women's tennis team to a split of two Northeast-10 Conference matches on Saturday and Sunday. The Dolphins fell at Adelphi, 6-3, on Saturday and downed New Haven, 7-2, on Sunday at the Drumlins Tennis Center.

Against Adelphi, Walrath picked up one of Le Moyne's two singles victories by defeating Maria Toft by a score of 6-3, 7-5 at first singles. Freshman Rebecca Black (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) was victorious over Jamie Sussman 6-1, 6-7 (10-12), 7-6 (7-3) at fifth singles. The team of senior Marielle Artessa (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) and sophomore Caroline Tisdell (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) topped Michelle Gurda and Nicole Byrnes 8-3 at second doubles.

On Sunday, Walrath cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over New Haven's Lauren Lyons at first singles.  She opened the match by teaming with Artessa to down Lyons and Gabby Fuentes, 8-3, at first doubles. Artessa closed out the regular season by beating Leah Smith 6-1, 7-5 at fourth singles.

Tisdell was victorious at second singles over Noelle Polhemus by a score of 5-7, 6-0, 10-5. Senior Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) picked up the win at third singles over Fuentes 6-1, 6-0. Smith and Chelsea Annese earned the win at second doubles over Cohen and Tisdell by a score of 8-4.

In fifth singles, Black won her sixth consecutive match by defeating Annese 6-0, 6-2. Black teamed with junior Megan Andolina (Fulton, N.Y./Fulton) to top Polhemus and Mariana Zahora 8-4.

Le Moyne (8-7, NE-10 8-5), which won seven of its 10 matches during the spring season, earned the sixth seed in this week's Northeast-10 Conference tournament and will play Adelphi on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Prior to Sunday's match with New Haven, seniors Artessa, Cohen and Walrath were honored for their contributions to the program.
