PRESS RELEASE FROM ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SPORTS INFORMATION
Peter Hoy, a former professional baseball player and the pitching coach for several years for Division I Le Moyne College in Syracuse, has been named head baseball coach at St. Lawrence University.
A member of the Canadian Olympic baseball team for the Seoul Olympics in 1988, Hoy was a relief pitcher in the Boston Red Sox organization from 1989-93 and pitched for the Red Sox in 1992. He attended Le Moyne from 1986-88 and was drafted by the Red Sox in 1988. Following his professional career, he completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Mississippi, in 1998.
Hoy was the pitching coach for Le Moyne from 1997-2009 and was co-director of the college's baseball camp. He helped Le Moyne to a 361-221 record and NCAA regional appearances in 2003, 2004 and 2007. Hoy's pitching staff led the conference in team ERAs five times and produced 10 professional pitchers, two All America and four conference pitchers-of-the-year. Hoy was a member of the coaching staff under head coach Steve Owens, a former St. Lawrence baseball standout.
The director of internal operations for Le Moyne's athletic department for the last year, Hoy replaces veteran Saint Coach Tom Fay, who retired in June, after a 38-year career that included over 500 victories.
"We are very pleased to have Pete Hoy join our athletic department," said St. Lawrence Athletic Director Margie Strait. "He has a wealth of experience as a player, intercollegiate coach and recruiter that make him an outstanding choice as our new head coach. He obviously has some big shoes to fill, following Tom Fay as head coach, but we have confidence that he will do an outstanding job in his new position."
