Boston, Mass. – Senior Gina Micaroni (Blossvale, N.Y./Canastota) and junior Emma D'Ambro (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley) earned All-Region accolades to lead the Le Moyne College women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the 2011 NCAA East Region Cross Country Championships on Sunday afternoon at Franklin Park. Junior Evan Oustrich (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) placed 59th among 178 men's runners to lead the Dolphins to an 18th-place finish.
Stonehill, which won the Northeast-10 Championship two weeks ago, won the women's team competition for the third consecutive year with 57 points. UMass Lowell took first place in the men's race for the sixth consecutive year and for the 10th time in the last 12 years with 71 points to edge Stonehill, the conference champion, by just six points. Individually, American International's Jeptui Cherutich, who won her second straight conference title two weeks ago, was the top women's finisher for the second consecutive year with a time of 21:54.4, while her teammate Glarius Rop added to his third straight conference title by topping the men's field with a time of 29:50.7.
Micaroni earned her second career All-Region honors (2008) by completing the six-kilometer course 11th, the best Regional finish of her career, in a time of 23:18.2, an improvement of 28 seconds from last year and the second-fastest time of her career over the distance (23:09 on Sept. 19, 2009 at Mansfield). D'Ambro crossed the finish line 22nd in 23:34.7, five seconds faster than last year and 24 seconds faster than her time at the Geneseo Invitational on October 1, to earn All-Region accolades for the second straight year. Freshman Rachel Crosley (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) gave the Dolphins three runners in the top-35 by placing 33rd with a time of 24:05.1, her fastest time of the year over the distance by one minute and 44 seconds. Freshman Taylor Lewis (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) recorded a 65th-place finish with a time of 24:51.9, five seconds faster than at Geneseo, while junior Erin Hudson (Fulton, N.Y./Fulton) completed the race 93rd in 25:39.1, an improvement of one minute and 25 seconds from last year's Regional. The Dolphins, who had their highest team placement since 2006 (6th), placed all five scorers in the top-100 for the first time since 2007.
On the men's side, Oustrich crossed the finish line of the ten-kilometer course with a time of 34:08, an improvement of one minute and 30 seconds and 30 places from two years ago. Junior Nicholas Cutter (Housatonic, Mass./Monument Mountain) placed 68th in 34:22.9, while sophomore Michael Marrero (Jordan, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge) gave the Dolphins three runners in the top-100 with an 89th-place finish in 35:04.5.
