Clinton, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's cross country team placed fourth out of 16 teams on Saturday morning at the Hamilton College Invitational. The men's team finished ninth out of 17 teams.
The University of Ottawa won the women's team competition with 22 points after having five of the top eight finishers. The host Continentals finished in second place with 68 points after having five of the top 21 scorers. After SUNY Plattsburgh in third place with 107 points, the Dolphins landed in fourth place with 170 points. Clarkson University rounded out the top five with 193 points. Ottawa's Ruth Burrowes won the race with a time of 17:24.1.
On the men's side, Ithaca College claimed the team competition with 38 points after having five of the top 12 finishers. The host Continentals had the top two finishers en route to totaling 51 points for second place. Ottawa finished in third place with 75 points, while Clarkson and SUNY Oswego followed with 142 and 151 points, respectively. Hamilton's Benjamin Yeo placed first with a time of 25:48.4 to top the field by almost eight seconds.
Freshman
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) was Le Moyne's top finisher for the fourth straight week with a time of 18:24.4 to place 14th. Classmate
Shania Hayward (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) covered the five-kilometer course in 19:28.0 to place 34th, while senior
Laura Quercia (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/SUNY Cortland) placed 42nd after recording a time of 19:39.6. Freshman
Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) crossed the finish line 48th in 19:45.2, while sophomore
Elena Doctor (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) posted a time of 20:03.8 to place 58th.
For the men, freshman
Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) was Le Moyne's top finisher for the fifth straight week with a time of 27:19.8 to place 32nd. Classmate
Michael Bennett (New York Mills, N.Y./New York Mills) navigated the eight-kilometer course in 28:01.3 to finish in 54th place, while junior
Adam Zinger (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) posted a time of 28:23.9 to place 68th. Freshmen
Zack Olmstead (Tully, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) and
Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) recorded times of 28:48.9 and 28:53.9, respectively, to place 79th and 81st.
Following a week off, the Dolphins are back in action on Sunday, October 26 at the ECAC Championships, which will be hosted by Mansfield University at the Lamb's Creek Cross Country Course.
