Mitch Hillegas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) and junior
Aidan Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tied for sixth place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Saint Rose Fall Shootout on Friday and Saturday at the par-71, 6496-yard Pinehaven Country Club.
Southern New Hampshire University won the team competition with a two-day score of 607. The Penmen recorded a 303 to take the first-round lead and then posted a 304 on Saturday to hold on to the lead. Franklin Pierce University recorded consecutive rounds of 306 to place second with a 612. The host Golden Knights carded a Shootout-best 294 to climb into third place with a 613 after registering a 319 in the first round. The Dolphins opened the event with a 308 to land in third place. Despite recording a lower score on Saturday, a 307, the Dolphins slipped to fourth place with a 615. Dowling College placed fifth with a 625 off rounds of 316 and 309. Southern New Hampshire's Jake Nutter, who posted the top score at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship two weeks ago, earned medalist honors with a four-over par 146 off back-to-back rounds of two-over 73.
Hillegas and Fuller recorded the same scores each day en route to landing in the tie for sixth place. They carded a 77 in the first round on Friday to place in a seven-way tie for ninth. On Saturday, they climbed up the standings with a three-over par 74. Freshman
Daniel Thomas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) landed in a tie for 17th place in his collegiate debut with a 156 off rounds of 77 and 79, while classmate
Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) was one shot back with a 157 to place in a three-way tie for 23rd after posting scores of 77 and 80. Senior
Dan Molter (Port Crane, N.Y./Chenango Forks) rounded out Le Moyne's entries with a 162 off consecutive rounds of 81 to place in a three-way tie for 33rd.
The Dolphins close out the Fall season on Monday and Tuesday at the ADPRO Sports Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College at the Turning Stone Resort's Kaluhyat Course in Verona.
