Aidan Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) earned medalist honors to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a first-place finish at the ADPRO Sports Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 7105-yard Kaluhyat Golf Course at the Turning Stone Resort. The 54-hole event featured 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Dolphins, who placed first for the third time in five events this Fall, captured the team competition with a three-round score of 929. The Dolphins opened the invitational with a 308 to land in second place and slipped into third place after posting a 314 in the second round. The Dolphins climbed into first place on Tuesday with a 307 to win by one stroke. Saint Thomas Aquinas finished in second place with a 930 off rounds of 306, 314 and 310. Roberts Wesleyan College, which hosted the event, placed third with a 936. The Redhawks led after the first day following rounds of 309 and 310, but fell into third with a 317 in the final round.
Fuller, who earned medalist honors for the second time in the last nine days, started off the invitational with a 73 in Monday's morning round to post the top score. He then shot a 75 in the second round to slip into a two-way tie for second place. Fuller, who tallied a 225 on the course at the season-opening Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, then posted the event's best round on Tuesday, a one-under par 71, to jump back atop the scoreboard with a three-round score of three-over par 219. Dan Molter (Port Crane, N.Y./Chenango Forks) finished one spot behind his teammate with a four-over par 220. After carding a 74 in the first round to land in a two-way tie for second place, he moved to the top of the standings at the end of the first day with an even-par 72. Molter then tallied another 74 on Tuesday to finish as the runner-up. Senior
Mitch Hillegas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) finished in 19th place with a 247 after posting rounds of 76, 86 and 85, while freshman
Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) was one shot back with a 248 to land in a tie for 20th place off rounds of 85, 84 and 79. Senior
Dan Edwards (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) placed 28th with a 257 following rounds of 91, 83 and 83. Junior
Alex Kinkaid (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa), who played as an individual, tied for sixth place with a 233 after registering consecutive rounds of 79 and a 75.
The Dolphins, who have won six events over the last 13 months, open the Spring season on Saturday, March 14 at the Seventh Annual St. James Plantation Invitational hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania at The Founders Club at St. James Plantation in Southport, N.C.
