Cazenovia, N.Y. – Freshmen
Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) registered first-place finishes to lead the Le Moyne College men's and women's cross country teams to victories at the Cazenovia College Homecoming Invitational on Saturday at the Fenner Fields.
The Le Moyne men had two of the top three finishers and five of the top 15 to record 39 points and claim first place by 26 points. Morrisville State College and Onondaga Community College tied for second place with 65 points. Paul Smith's College finished fourth with 89 points, while Bryant and Stratton recorded 126 points to place fifth.
In the women's race, the Dolphins cruised to a first-place finish with 25 points after having five of the top eight finishers. The host Wildcats finished in second place with 66 points, while Paul Smith's came in third with 75 points. Keuka College placed fourth with 94 points, while Morrisville State totaled 108 points to place fifth.
Beney navigated the eight-kilometer course in 29:07 to be the first to cross the finish line by seven seconds. Freshman
Michael Bennett (New York Mills, N.Y./New York Mills) registered a time of 29:17 to place third, while classmate
Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) finished in ninth place with a time of 30:21. Junior
Adam Zinger (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) posted a time of 30:54 to place 14th, while sophomore
Colin Teeter (Central Square, N.Y./Central Square) was one spot back after recording a time of 31:07.
Cudney, the reigning Northeast-10 Conference and ECAC Rookie of the Week, covered the five-kilometer course in 20:25 to top the field by 31 seconds. Senior
Rachel Crosley (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) finished in fourth place with a time of 21:25, while freshman
Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) also recorded a time of 21:25 to place fifth. Senior
Laura Quercia (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/SUNY Cortland) crossed the finish line seventh in 21:40, while freshman
Savannah Stevens (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied a time of 21:49 to place eighth.
The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday at the Hamilton College Invitational.
