Worcester, Mass. – Freshman James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) recorded a pair of victories, but the Le Moyne College men's tennis team fell to Assumption College, 6-3, on Saturday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Greendale YMCA.
In doubles action, Gayvert teamed with classmate Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) to register an 8-6 win over Chris Waung and Viljami Rahnasto at the top spot. At second doubles, Marco Leung and Matt Drolet topped junior Shane Evans (Oswego, N.Y./Pulaski) and Daryl Johnson (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa), 9-7, while Matt Surpenant and Michael Breen were 8-2 winners over senior Alessandro Nieves (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and junior Sean O'Connor (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) at the third spot.
Gayvert recorded his fourth straight singles victory over a regional opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Waung at the top spot. Nieves picked up Le Moyne's third point by defeating Breen at fifth singles, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5. Rahnasto earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Spoor at the second spot, while Leung posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at third singles over Evans. Surpenant was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Johnson at fourth singles, while Drolet closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at sixth singles over sophomore Blaine Drake">Blaine Drake (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker).
Le Moyne (3-7, 2-5 NE-10) returns to the courts tomorrow against American International College at 3:00 p.m. at the SPORTIME Tennis Club in Schenectady, N.Y.
