Garden City, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team closed out its season with an 8-1 loss to Adelphi University on Sunday in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The Dolphins picked up their point at the first doubles position as freshmen James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) registered an 8-2 victory over Sebastian Zapata and Ryan Villarruel. At second doubles, Sander Brenner and Uladzislau Litvinchu were 8-0 winners over junior Shane Evans (Oswego, N.Y./Pulaski) and senior Daryl Johnson (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa), while senior Alessandro Nieves (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and freshman Adam Celeta (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) fell to Chiwete Njokanma and Justin Vijungco, 8-0, at the third spot.
In singles action, Brenner recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Gayvert at the top spot, while Zapata won the closest match of the day, 6-7, 6-2, 10-5, over Spoor at second singles. Villarruel posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at third singles over Evans, while Njokanma registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Nieves at the fourth spot. Litvinchu and Vijungco each posted 6-0, 6-1 wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, over Johnson and sophomore Blaine Drake (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker).
The Dolphins, who went 1-12 overall and 0-9 in conference action last year, finish the season with a 5-9 overall record and a 4-6 mark in NE-10 play to finish in seventh place.
