Baldwinsville, N.Y. – Sophomore Emilie Oakes (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) placed 11th to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Le Moyne-hosted Mike Bello Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 5812-yard Timber Banks Golf Course.
Prior to the start of Saturday's round, the Dolphin Athletic Association honored seniors Laura Nicolais (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and Emma Plucinik (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) for their contributions to the program. The duo are the first two four-year players in the program's five-season history.
Kutztown University, which had four of the top five individual finishers, won the team competition for the second straight year with a two-day score of 663 after recording rounds of 330 and 333. West Chester University registered back-to-back rounds of 343 to place second with a score of 686. The Dolphins finished in third place at the invitational for the second straight year by registering a two-round score of 747. The Dolphins carded a 368 in the first round and a 379 on Sunday. East Stroudsburg placed fourth with a 785 on rounds of 382 and 403, while Hamilton finished fifth with a 792 off rounds of 394 and 398. Kutztown's Madison Beer won medalist honors with a two-day total of 163 after recording rounds of 82 and 81.
Oakes, who was top the finisher from a team other than Kutztown or West Chester, finished in 11th place after posting a score of 180. She opened the invitational with an 88 to land in a tie for 12t place before carding a 92 on Sunday to climb a spot. Sophomore Emily Stickel (Kensington, Conn./Berlin) registered a 13th-place finish with a 182. She joined her classmate in the first-round tie, while posting a 94 in the second round. Nicolais placed 19th with a 192 on back-to-back rounds of 96, while freshman Kayla Burt (Williamsville, N.Y./Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) was one spot and one shot back after turning in rounds of 96 and 97. Plucinik recorded rounds of 116 and 104 to place 31st with a 220.
Le Moyne returns to the links on Friday at the Gannon Spring Invitational at Lake Shore Country Club in Erie, Pennsylvania.
