Rindge, N.H. – Freshman
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) finished in third place to lead the Le Moyne College women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup hosted by Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at the Gates Farm Course. Freshman
Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) placed 27th to lead the men's team to a seventh-place finish.
Merrimack College had four of the top 10 individual finishers en route to claiming the women's team competition with 45 total points. Adelphi University placed second with 57 points after having four of the top 13 finishers. Southern New Hampshire registered 93 points to place third, while the Dolphins were just four points back in fourth place. The host Ravens tallied 136 points for a fifth-place finish. American International's Pascaline Jerotich crossed the finish line first with a time of 15:48.
On the men's side, American International ran away with the team competition with 22 total points after having the top three finishers and five of the top 10. The host Ravens had four of the top 15 to come in second place with 68 points, just three ahead of third-place Merrimack. Adelphi claimed 83 points for fourth place, while Southern Connecticut State recorded 155 points for fifth. The Dolphins landed in seventh with 168 points, just four behind sixth-place Southern New Hampshire. American International's Michael Biwott, the top finisher at the last two Northeast-10 Conference Championship meets, won the men's race by 80 seconds with a time of 19:36.
Cudney, the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, navigated the four-kilometer course in 16:15 to place third. Classmate
Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) crossed the finish line in 18:31 to place 27th, while senior
Laura Hough (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) was three spots back with a time of 18:45. Junior
Katherine Ward (Tully, N.Y./Tully) and freshman
Savannah Stevens (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) placed 32nd and 33rd in 18:47 and 18:49, respectively, to round out Le Moyne's scorers.
On the men's side, Beney completed the six-kilometer course in 22:42 to place 27th. Classmates
Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) and
Michael Bennett (New York Mills, N.Y./New York Mills) registered times of 22:53 and 23:02 to place 32nd and 36th. Sophomore
Colin Teeter (Central Square, N.Y./Central Square) placed 50th with a time of 23:37, while junior
Adam Zinger (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) rounded out Le Moyne's scorers in 59th place with a time of 24:24.
After a weekend off, the Dolphins are back in action at Roberts Wesleyan's Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Saturday, September 27.
