Dan Molter (Port Crane, N.Y./Chenango Forks) and junior
Aidan Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tied for sixth place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a first-place finish at the Dowling September Shootout on Sunday and Monday at the par-71, 6587-yard Tallgrass Golf Course.
The Dolphins won the team championship with a two-day score of 588. The total is the lowest 36-hole tournament score by the Dolphins since recording a 585 en route to winning the ECAC Championship on September 24, 2007. The Dolphins opened the tournament with a 293 to land in second place, one shot behind Concordia College. They then registered Monday's best round, a 295, to claim the title by 11 shots. Farmingdale State College finished in second place with a 599 after posting rounds of 294 and 305, while Nyack College placed third with rounds of 298 and 302 for a total of 600. American International College registered rounds of 296 and 306 to place fourth with a 602, while Bentley University was four shots back after rounds of 298 and 308. Dowling's Petter Lehmann (68-73) and Nyack's Matthew Yun (72-69) tied for first place with a one-under par 141.
Molter opened the tournament with a 74 to land in a nine-way tie for 17th place. He then registered a 73 on Monday to climb 11 spots in the standings and finish with a career-best total of 147. Fuller tallied a 76 in the opening round to land in a four-way tie for 29th place. On Monday, he tied his career-best with a round of 71 to jump 23 spots for a total of 147, the second-best score of his career. Senior
Dan Edwards (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) gave the Dolphins three players in the top 10 as he finished in a three-way tie for ninth place with a career-best score of 148. Prior to shooting a 77 in the second round, he registered a career-best even-par 71 in the first round to land in a tie for fifth place. His first round included a hole-in-one on the par-3, 130-yard 14th hole using a pitching wedge. The hole-in-one is the first by a Dolphin in over 11 years. Junior
Alex Kinkaid (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) tied for 20th place with a 153, the third-best score of his career, following a career-best 72 and an 81. Senior
Mitch Hillegas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) tied for 26th place with a 154, which ties for the second-best score of his career, after recording rounds of 80 and a career-best 74. Senior
Sam Eno (Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional), who played as an individual, was also part of the five-way tie for 26th place after posting rounds of 78 and 76.
Le Moyne, which has won four of its last 11 invitationals after going 51 events between victories, returns to action on Saturday and Sunday at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Lake Sunapee Country Club in New London, New Hampshire.
