WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY PLACES 13TH, MEN 15TH AT NCAA EAST REGIONAL

Hopkinton, N.H. – Sophomore Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) earned All-Region honors to lead the Le Moyne College women's cross country team to a 13th-place finish at the 2015 NCAA East Region Cross Country Championships on Sunday morning at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds. Sophomore Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) led the men's team to a 15th-place finish by placing 41st.

Stonehill College, which won its seventh straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship two weeks ago, recorded its 13th regional championship with 48 points, including three of the top-10 finishers. Northeast-10 champion Nicole Borofski added another piece of hardware to her collection by placing first in 21:12.5. Roberts Wesleyan College placed second with 128 points to advance to the NCAA Championships, as will St. Thomas Aquinas College, which placed third with 160 points.

On the men's side, American International, which captured its second straight NE-10 championship two weeks ago, recorded its second consecutive regional title with 45 points after having the top two finishers and three of the top four. The Yellow Jackets were led by John Chirchir, who claimed the individual title after crossing the finish line in 30:49.0. Also joining the Yellow Jackets at the national championship in two weeks will be Bentley University, which placed second with 103 points, and Stonehill, which placed third with 122 points. Le Moyne's 15th-place finish is a three-spot improvement from the last two years and its best since also placing 15th in 2010.

Cudney earned her first career all-region honors by placing 25th after covering the six-kilometer course in a career-best 22:33.6. Freshman Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) was the next Dolphin to finish, placing 61st among the 186-competitor field with a time of 23:49.3, while classmate Rachael Miller (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) crossed the finish line in a career-best 24:46.3 to place 94th. Junior Elena Doctor (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) tallied a time of 25:08.5 to place 112th, while sophomore Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) was two spots back in 25:10.7.

On the men's side, Beney navigated the 10-kilometer course in 33:05.4, an improvement of 80 seconds from last year, to place 41st, 43 places higher than last year and the highest finish by a Dolphin since 2009. Fellow sophomore Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) recorded a time of 35:02.8, 23 seconds faster than last year, to place 90th, an improvement of 22 spots from one year ago. Freshman Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) placed 94th in 35:14.7 as the 16th of 54 rookies to finish. Senior Adam Zinger (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) completed his collegiate career by placing 101st in 35:28.1, an improvement of 30 places and 24.8 seconds from last year, while classmate Derek Clar (Scottsville, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) improved 29 places and 43 seconds from last year by placing 115t in 35:56.6.
