James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) won in singles action and teamed for a double victory to lead the Le Moyne College men's tennis team to a 5-4 win over Daemen College on Sunday afternoon in non-conference play at Gold's Gym.
At first doubles, Gayvert and Spoor teamed for an 8-4 victory over Mark Veitengruber and John LeMar. With Gregory Lowe and Ethan Wincowski winning by default at third doubles, the Wildcats took a 2-1 lead upon the completion of doubles play after Adam Kerr and Joey Gentile recorded an 8-6 win at second doubles over freshman
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and sophomore
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Geneseo).
In singles action, Gayvert improved to 7-1 in dual matches with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Gentile at the top spot. Spoor also improved to 7-1 on the year by rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory at third singles over Lowe. After Procopio gave the Dolphins a 4-3 lead in the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over LeMar at fourth singles, Barton clinched the match with a 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-4 win at second singles over Veitengruber. Kerr was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over sophomore
Adam Celata (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) at fifth singles, while Wincowski won by default at sixth singles.
Le Moyne (5-3), which snapped a three-match losing streak, returns to the courts on Sunday at Colgate University at 5:00 p.m. at the Sanford Field House.
