Dan Molter (Port Crane, N.Y./Chenango Forks) tied for sixth place to lead the Le Moyne College men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the at the Seventh Annual St. James Plantation Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the par-72, 6,658-yard The Founders Club at St. James Plantation.
Bentley University rallied on the second day of the event to win the team competition by one shot with a two-round score of 636. The Falcons opened with a 327 in the first round to land in third place (five shots out of first) and then carded a 309 on Saturday to take over first place. West Chester University was one shot back in second place with a 637 after posting rounds of 322 (Friday's best round) and 315. Indiana University of Pennsylvania, which hosted the event, was another shot back in third place with a 638 following rounds of 323 and 315. Mercyhurst University tallied the best round of the invitational on Saturday, a 308, to climb into fourth place with a 642 after posting a 334 on Friday. Gannon University used rounds of 330 and 315 to place fifth with a 645, while the Dolphins registered a 329 in the first round and a 319 on Saturday to finish with a 648. Matt Barto from Gannon claimed medalist honors after shooting a five-over par 149 following rounds of 78 and 71.
Molter recorded his third top-six finish in seven events this year by registering a 156 over the two rounds. After carding an 83 on Friday to land in a tie for 28th place, he vaulted up the standings with a one-over par 73, the third-best score of the invitational, in the second round. Sophomore
John Clare (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) tied for 18th place in his first event back with the Dolphins with a 161 after posting rounds of 79 and 82. Junior
Aidan Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tied for 24th place after posting scores of 82 and 80 to finish with a 162. Senior
Mitch Hillegas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) tallied an 85 and an 84 to tie for 42nd-place with a 169. Junior
Alex Kinkaid (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) rounded out Le Moyne's team with a 172 on rounds of 85 and 87 to land in 61st place. Playing as an individual, freshman
Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tied for eighth place, his best collegiate finish, with a 157 off rounds of 80 and 77.
The Dolphins return to action on Friday, April 3 at Dowling College's Peter King Memorial at Tallgrass Golf Club in Shoreham, N.Y.
