MEN’S GOLF CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH SECOND-PLACE FINISH AT MIKE BELLO INVITATIONAL

Baldwinsville, N.Y. – Three Dolphins tied for second place as the Le Moyne College men's golf team placed second at the Mike Bello Invitational on Sunday and Monday at the par-72, 6739-yard Timber Banks Golf Club.

St. Thomas Aquinas College, the top-ranked team in the NCAA East Region rankings, won the team competition with a two-day score of 608. The Spartans held a one shot lead after carding a 304 in the first round and extended their lead with another 304 on Monday. The Dolphins, who are ranked third in the East Region rankings, claimed their sixth top-two finish of the year (9 events) with a 620. They registered a 305 on Sunday to sit one shot behind STAC and held onto the second spot with a 315 in the second round. Bentley University and Southern New Hampshire University, the fourth and eighth-ranked teams in the East Region rankings, tied for third place with a score of 637. The Falcons recorded rounds of 318 and 319, while the Falcons posted scores of 315 and 322. Dowling College rounded out the top five with a 643 off rounds of 324 and 319. Southern New Hampshire's Jake Nutter earned medalist honors after carding an even-par score of 144 following consecutive rounds of 72.

Senior Dan Molter (Port Crane, N.Y./Chenango Forks), junior Aidan Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and sophomore John Clare (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) were all part of a four-way tie for second place with a seven-over 151. Clare opened the invitational with an even-par 72 to tie Nutter for the top spot after the first round before slipping a spot in the standings with a 79 on Monday. Fuller and Molter were part of a four-way tie for fifth place after carding a three-over 75 in the first round and then moved up the standings with a 76. The invitational was Fuller's fourth top-five finish of the year, while Molter turned in his second second-place finish of the campaign. Freshman Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) was the team's fourth finisher with a score of 167 to land in a tie for 36th place after rounds of 83 and 84, while senior Mitch Hillegas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) rounded out Le Moyne's team with a 181.
 
The Dolphins will now prepare for the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional, which will be held May 4-6 at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The field, which will be announced on Friday, will consist of 10 teams from each of the Atlantic and East Regions as well as four unattached individuals from each region.
