Conover, N.C. – The Le Moyne College men's golf team tied its best finish in the program's history by placing 20th at the NCAA Championships at the par-71, 7021-yard Rock Barn Golf & Spa.
The Dolphins, who also placed 20th at the 2007 Championship, opened the championship by recording a 304 to land in 17th place. Despite improving by three strokes in the second round, the Dolphins slipped a spot into 18th place. The Dolphins registered a 315 in the third round to fall two spots in the standings.
The top eight teams from the three days advanced to the match play portion of the championship. Lynn claimed the top seed after posting an 853 (283-290-280), while Nova Southeastern (279-291-285) was three shots back in second. Central Missouri (287-286-285) and St. Leo (290-278-290) tied for third place with a 858, while Simon Fraser tallied an 859 (289-285-285). South Carolina-Aiken earned the sixth seed with an 867 (284-283-300), Chico State came in seventh with an 870 (289-291-290) and Florida Southern placed eighth with a score of 872 (296-294-282). Central Missouri's Sam Migdal captured the individual national championship by three shots by registering an eight-under par 205 off rounds of 66, 71 and 68.
Sophomore
John Clare (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) led the Dolphins at the championship by placing in a tie for 54th with a 10-over par 223. On the opening day, he carded a two-over par 73 to land in a 15-way tie for 34th place. He remained in a tie for 34th on Tuesday after registering a 72. He capped his week with a 78 to slip into a tie for 54th place.
Senior
Dan Molter (Port Crane, N.Y./Chenango Forks) closed out his career by recording a 229 to tie for 81st place. He registered a 76 in the first round to tie for 64th place. He jumped into a tie for 50th place on Tuesday with a 72. In his final collegiate round, he recorded an 81.
Freshman
Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) wrapped up his rookie year with a 234 to tie for 96th place. He started the championship with an 80 to place 98th, while he moved up to a tie for 85th with a 74 in the second round. He carded an 80 in the third round to dip into his final placement.
Junior
Aidan Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tallied a 240 to place 106th. He opened with an 81 to tie for 99th place and dropped to 108th with an 83 in the second round. He posted the team's best round of the day on Wednesday with a 76 to move up two spots in the final standings.
Senior
Dan Edwards (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) completed his career with a 244 to place 107th. In the opening round, he recorded a 75 to tie for 56th place. He slipped to 102nd with an 83 on Saturday and dropped five spots on Wednesday with an 86.
