Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) placed 17th to lead the Le Moyne College men's cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Saturday at Stonehill College. Classmate
Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) placed 21st to also lead the women's team to an eighth-place finish.
On the men's side, American International College won its third straight conference championship with 27 points after having five of the top 10 runners. Stonehill College finished in second place for the third straight year with 74 points after five Skyhawks placed in the top 23. Bentley University moved up two spots from last year by placing third with 121 points, while Franklin Pierce University tallied 134 points to place fourth after back-to-back third-place finishes. Southern New Hampshire University recorded 141 points to round out the top five teams. The Dolphins registered 219 points, an improvement of 99 points from last year, to move up three spots in the standings from last year. Leakey Kipkosgei from American International won his first individual conference championship with a time of 24:35.4 to give the Yellow Jackets their eighth consecutive individual champion.
Stonehill College won its eighth consecutive conference championship on the women's side and its 15th in the last 17 years with 40 total points after having five of the top 12 runners. Following back-to-back third-place finishes, Assumption College placed second with 82 points. Bentley University, which finished second last year, registered 131 points to place third. Merrimack College and Southern Connecticut State University rounded out the top five with 149 and 173 points, respectively. The Dolphins recorded 219 points to place eighth for the third time in the last four years. Stonehill's Nicole Borofski won her second straight individual conference championship by registering a time of 21:26.2.
By virtue of its eighth-place finishes, Le Moyne claims the two cross country points in the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the Dolphins and The College of Saint Rose. The Golden Knights placed ninth in the women's race and 11th on the men's side. Through eight of the 17 sports, the Dolphins hold a 7-1 lead over the Golden Knights.
In the men's race, Beney earned his first career Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference honors by landing on the third team after covering the eight-kilometer course in 25:53.4 to place 17th among the 154 competitors and an improvement of eight places and 18.8 seconds from last year. Freshman
Nick Taylor (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) crossed the finish line 32nd, and third among freshman, in 26:39.1, while classmate
Chris Davitt (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) recorded a time of 26:57.2 to place 41st overall and fifth among freshman. Sophomore
Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) improved by 30 spots from last year by placing 67th in 27:57.1, which is 31.2 seconds faster than last year. Freshman
Dom Battaglia (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) rounded out the team's five scorers by placing 113th in 29:20.6.
Cudney earned Northeast-10 Conference Third Team All-Conference accolades for the third straight year after navigating the six-kilometer course in 23:35.7 as the fourth junior to finish. Sophomore
Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) placed 51st in 24:34.3, while classmate
Rachael Miller (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) turned in a time of 24:50.9 to place 62nd. Freshman
Jordan Sloan (Central Square, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) posted a time of 24:57.7 to place 63rd, while classmate
Siara Clos (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga) was four spots back in 25:02.5.
Le Moyne closes out the season on Saturday, November 5 at the NCAA East Regional at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Concord, New Hampshire.
