MEN'S GOLF WINS NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Valatie, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's golf team captured the Northeast-10 Conference Championship by one stroke on Monday afternoon at the par-72, 6893-yard Olde Kinderhook Golf Club.

The championship is the program's second and the first since the 2008 season. With the victory, the Dolphins claim the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships in May. The Dolphins tied for first place last year, but fell in the playoff, while they were the runner up two years ago.

Le Moyne finished the two-day event with a 10-over par total of 586. The Dolphins carded a 290 in the first round to grab a five-shot lead. They followed with a 296 on Monday to win the title by one shot. Southern New Hampshire, which defeated the Dolphins in the playoff last year, finished in second place with a 36-hole score of 587. The Penmen registered a 295 in the first round and moved closer to the Dolphins with a 292 in the second round. The College of Saint Rose, which served as the host of the Championship, finished in third place with a 597 off rounds of 297 and 300.

Freshman Jonathan Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Dolphins at the Championship by finishing in a three-way tie for third place with a one-over par 145 to earn a spot on the All-Championship Team. He opened the Championship with a one-under par 71, which included three birdies, to land in third place by himself. He followed that with a 74 on Monday to maintain his hold on third place. Petrin's placement, opening round score and total score are the best by a Dolphin freshman at the Championship since Kevin Jackson used rounds of 69 and 75 to win the 2008 NE-10 individual championship with a 144.

Senior John Clare (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and junior Joe Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tied for sixth place with a 36-hole score of two-over par 146. Clare registered a two-under 70, the 21st round of his career under par, to place second following the first round. He slipped four spots on Monday after recording a 76. After opening the Championship with a 77 on Sunday to tie for 22nd place, Joe Petrin rocketed up the standings on Monday with a three-under par 69, the best round of his career.

Freshman Nicholas Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) tied for 18th place with a 154. He tied for fourth place on Sunday by registering an even-par 72. He closed out the Championship on Monday with an 82.

Junior Daniel Thomas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) tied for 31st place at his second NE-10 Championship by tallying a 158. He opened with an 81 and then moved up five places in the standings on Monday with a 77.

The Dolphins are back on the links at another Saint Rose-hosted event, the Saint Rose Fall Shootout, on Friday and Saturday at Pinehaven Country Club in Guilderland, N.Y.
