Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Le Moyne takes a 1-0 lead over Saint Rose in the sixth year of the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions.
In the doubles competition, sophomore
Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Victoria/Doncaster Secondary College) and junior
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice) registered an 8-0 victory at the top spot over Emily Farrell and KeriAnn Mahoney. At the second position, junior
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and senior
Christina Perry (Endwell, N.Y./Seton Catholic) were 8-3 winners over Averie Bowen and Alanna Bergmann. Junior
Autumn Hogan (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas institute) and freshman
Kim Driesen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory at the third position over Wendella Wilson and Ellen Farney.
In singles play, Dun was victorious in the closest match of the day by defeating Bowen at the first position, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1). Vajjiravelu earned her 25th career victory by posting consecutive scores of 6-1 against Farrell at the second spot. Benoit-Limosani tallied her 27th career victory, the third-most by a Dolphin over the last 12 years, with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the third spot over Mahoney. Hogan cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles against Bergmann. Driesen recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Wilson at the fifth spot for her first career win, while classmate
Mackenzie Aiello (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) picked up her first collegiate victory at the sixth spot over Farney, 6-0, 3-0.
