Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team had its eight-match win streak snapped by Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 setback at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
The Panthers opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the top position, Rebecca Fakas and Karen Serina edged seniors
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice), 9-8 (7-4). Elizabeth Kallenberg and Samantha Perri were 8-1 winners at the second spot over freshmen
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi). Nicole Kielan and Vanja Savic registered an 8-4 victory over junior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) at the third position.
Adelphi won the first four spots of the singles competition to clinch the victory. Fakas defeated Vajjiravelu, 6-2, 6-1, at the first position, while Kallenberg recorded back-to-back scores of 6-3 to beat Hamdan at the second spot. Kielan was victorious over Benoit-Limosani at the third position, 6-4, 6-0, while Perri tallied a 6-3, 6-1 win at the fourth spot over St. Antoine.
At the fifth position, Nunez recorded Le Moyne's first point as Serina retired trailing 4-3 in the first set. Humala earned her team's second point by rallying for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at the sixth position over Savic.
Le Moyne (10-3, 8-3 NE10) closes out Northeast-10 play on Sunday against Stonehill College at Skytop at 11:00 a.m.
