Troy, N.Y. – Senior
Kelsey Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) registered two individual victories and teamed on a relay win to lead the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving team to a 138-75 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Robison Pool. Travis May (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) posted two individual wins to lead the men's team to a 139-78 victory over the Golden Knights.
With the two victories, Le Moyne College clinches the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the Dolphins and the Golden Knights. Through 10 of the year's 17 sports, the Dolphins hold a 9.5 to 0.5 lead.
In the opening event of the afternoon, Smith and classmates
Annie Steve (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland),
Alyssa Baker (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and
Sarah Gaffney (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) combined to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.12.
Smith captured the win in the 200-yard IM by touching the wall in 2:14.38. She later won the 100-yard backstroke by 0.16 seconds with a time of 1:01.70.
Baker added a victory in the 50-yard freestyle by posting a time of 26.15 seconds.
Gaffney collected an individual victory by touching the wall in 57.77 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.
Sophomore
Karen Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 11:32.58.
Freshman
Haley Synan (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) earned Le Moyne's third straight win to open the meet by posting a time of 2:03.59 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Freshman
Victoria Breslin (Wilton, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) earned the win in the 100-yard butterfly by almost two seconds by turning in a time of 1:02.64.
Junior
Kylee Wilson (Conesus, N.Y./Livonia) won the second one-meter diving event by collecting 180.40 points.
May registered a time of 21.90 seconds to win the 50-yard freestyle for his first victory of the meet. He tallied his second victory of the day by edging his competition in the 100-yard butterfly by 0.17 seconds with a season-best time of 52.08 seconds.
Senior
Andy Raiola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) earned the men's team's first win by topping the field in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.88.
Sophomore
Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) won the 200-yard by 5.25 seconds with a time of 2:01.97.
Freshman
Austin Richardson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) captured first place in the 500-yard freestyle by over four seconds with a time of 5:03.70.
Junior
Matthew Wanamaker (Camillus, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/SUNY Geneseo) was victorious in the second one-meter diving event with 244.45 points.
To close out the meet, Raiola and Richardson teamed with freshman
Nathan Gdula (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) and junior
Eric Burdge (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.63.
The Dolphins, who completed their dual-meet schedule for the semester, wrap up the semester at Ithaca College's Bomber Invitational Friday, December 1 through Sunday, December 3.
