Haverhill, Mass. – Sophomore
Bianca Cruz-Hernandez (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) tied for eighth place to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday and Monday at the par-72, 5861-yard Haverhill Country Club.
The Dolphins finished in third place for the fourth straight year with a two-day total of 670. The Dolphins carded a 333 in the first round to place third. They followed up with a 337 on Monday to extend their hold on third place. Le Moyne's total at this year's Championship is its second-best at the event. Franklin Pierce University, which placed second in each of the first three NE10 Championships, won its first-ever Northeast-10 title with an NE-10 record score of 618. The Ravens, who had all five participants finish in the top-nine, recorded a then NE10 record-tying score of 310 in the first round to take a one shot lead and then dropped their score to a new record of 308 on Monday. Merrimack College, which won the first three Championships, was two shots back in second place with a total of 620, the second-best score in the championship's history. The Warriors posted a 311 on Sunday to place second and held the spot with a 309, the second-best round in the championship's history. Merrimack's Krystal Knight, who placed third last year and second in 2015, won her first individual NE10 championship with a championship-best two-under par score of 142. She recorded a 70, the second\-best score in the championship's history, in the first round to place second and then moved to the top of the leaderboard with an even par 72.
Cruz-Hernandez registered a 161 over the two rounds to finish in seventh place, one shot and one place behind last year. She turned in an 82 in the first round to land in a three-way tie for ninth place, the same as last year. She bettered that score by three shots with a 79 on Monday to move up a spot in the standings. Her second round featured six pars and four birdies, which included chipping in a shot from a bunker on the right side of the green on the eighth hole.
Sophomore
Lauren Kase (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) finished alone in 10th place among the 37 competitors with a 162. Kase was part of the three-way tie for ninth with Cruz-Hernandez with an 82. She closed out the championship with an 80, which included five birdies, including three straight over the sixth through eighth holes, but dipped a spot in the standings.
Junior
Katherine Walsh (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), who placed eighth at last year's Championship after finishing 15th as a freshman, placed 11th with a 163, her best score in three appearances at the championship. She tallied a 79 in the first round, her second straight round with the score, to tie for fifth place and then recorded an 84 on Monday. Her first round featured three birdies and four pars, while she had six pars in the second round.
Senior
Ashley Mayse (Cecilton, Md./Bohemia Manor), who tied for 24th place last year, finished alone in the spot this year with a 184. After recording a 90, which included five pars, in the first round to place 22nd, she posted a 94 on the second day.
Freshman
Micayla Moldenke (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) placed 34th with a 203 in her first NE10 Championship. She posted a 103 in the first round and followed with a 100 on Monday.
Le Moyne, which tallied one point for a 1-0 lead in the year-long "Upstate Challenge" with The College of Saint Rose after the Golden Knights placed sixth at the Championship, is back on the links on Saturday and Sunday at SUNY Cortland's Martin & Wallace Invitational at Cortland Country Club in Cortland.
