Springfield, Mass. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team swept six of the nine matches en route to an 8-1 win over American International College on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Forest Park.
In the doubles competition, sophomore
Kim Driesen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and freshman
Maggie Scanlon (Orchard Park, N.Y./Nardin Academy) earned Le Moyne's first point of the day by defeating Ashley Ata and Connie Yew at the third spot, 8-0. Junior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) followed with an 8-0 victory at the second spot over Morgan Hill and Alice Calabrese. Seniors
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice) gave the Dolphins a 3-0 lead in the match with an 8-5 victory at the top spot against Carleyah McLean and Meri Jimeno-Vicente.
In the singles competition, Driesen picked up her second point of the day by cruising past Yew at the sixth position, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) registered her fifth straight victory by blanking Calabrese at the fourth spot, 6-0, 6-0. Classmate
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) followed with another straight sweep over Ata at the fifth position for her fourth win of the year. St. Antoine registered Le Moyne's final sweep of the day by defeating Hill at the third spot. Hamdan recorded the final point for the Dolphins, 6-1, 6-3, over McLean at the first position. Jimeno-Vicente earned AIC's point with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-2 victory at the second spot over Benoit-Limosani.
Le Moyne (4-2, 3-2 NE10) is back on the courts on Sunday at Saint Michael's College at 12:00 p.m.
