Amherst, N.Y. – Junior midfielder
Robert Rohrhirsch (Garching bei München, Germany/Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching/Munich University of Applied Sciences) scored three goals in less than five minutes to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 7-1 victory over Daemen College in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Karrer Field.
The Dolphins, who received votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, opened the game's scoring in the 17th minute. After having his first two shots of the game saved, Rohrhirsch tallied his third goal of the season at the 16:20 mark. Only 2:01 later, Rohrhirsch made it 2-0 by finishing off a pass from senior midfielder
Pablo Fernandez (Aviles, Spain/Real Oviedo). Rohrhirsch completed his natural hat trick only 2:52 later with his third goal in 4:53 after receiving pass feed from sophomore midfielder
Noah Moothedan (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner). His five goals on the season equal his total over 18 games last season.
Following two shots by each team over the next 20 minutes, Daemen got on the scoreboard as Derek Mancuso scored his first goal of the season at the 41:54 mark after taking a pass from Ben Christidis.
The Dolphins blew the game open with four goals in a span of 6:50 in the opening third of the second half. Moothedan started the outburst with his third goal of the season at the 50:14 mark from the top right corner of the penalty box. Moothedan, who had three assists and just one shot in 300 minutes over 15 games as a freshman, has registered a goal and an assist in each of the last three games.
First-year graduate student forward
Goran Naric (Neuwied, Germany/Rhein-Wied-Gymnasium/Hochschule Koblenz) gave the Dolphins a 5-1 lead at the 53:21 mark with his fifth marker of the campaign. Just 27 seconds later, sophomore forward
Brandon Mimas (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/UAlbany), who replaced Naric on the field after the previous goal, netted his first career goal after collecting a pass from redshirt junior back
Mirko Orchi (Civitavecchia, Italy/Institute Antonio Iervolino/UMKC). Off a scramble in the box at the 57:04 mark, Mimas snuck the ball into the back of the net to give the Dolphins their second six-goal lead of the season.
The Dolphins got off 11 shots over the final 31 minutes of the game (while not allowing any), including five on target, but were unable to add to their lead.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded one save (against one goal) over 74:33 between the pipes to earn the victory. Jarrett Lecceadone registered nine saves in the loss for the Wildcats. Le Moyne finished the contest with a 29-4 advantage in shots, including 19-0 in the second half, while taking 11 of the game's 13 shots.
Le Moyne, which is 4-0 for the second straight year, opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday by hosting #1 nationally-ranked Adelphi University at 1:00 p.m. The Panthers are the second top-ranked team to visit Ted Grant Field in the last five years (Southern New Hampshire, October 25, 2014) and the third top-two team (Southern New Hampshire, October 1, 2016).
