10/22/2021 10:41:00 AM

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's tennis team will begin their postseason on Friday, October 22 when they take on Adelphi University in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Semifinals at 1:00 p.m. EST at the Skytop tennis courts in Syracuse. The Dolphins earned the #1 seed in the tournament following a 12-1 regular season, including a perfect 10-0 record against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 7-3 NE10 resume, good for the fourth seed in the conference championships. Adelphi then defeated the #5 seed Stonehill to advance to the tournament semis.

Adelphi head coach Rebecca Fakas was voted as the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year, and the Panthers had five players earn All-Conference recognition for their play on the court this fall: Louisa Junghanns (No. 1 singles), Julia Kielan (No. 5 singles), and Carolina Chaves (No. 6 singles) all earned Second Team honors. Barbie Quagliardi was selected to the Third Team for No. 2 singles, and the teams of Amanda Franstedt and Louisa Junghanns, and Carolina Chaves and Julia Kielan earned Third Team recognition for No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively. Adelphi also had two players named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team - Carolina Chaves and Caterina Federici.

Le Moyne senior Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) earned two First Team All-Conference nods at No. 6 singles and at No. 3 doubles with her partner, Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador). Barona was voted the NE10 Rookie of the Year, and earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team, as well as Third Team All-Conference for No. 1 singles. Birdem Oz (No. 2 singles), Marta Nunez (No. 3 singles), and Francesca Lilliegren (No. 5 singles) also earned First Team All-Conference accolades for Le Moyne. Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) was an All-Conference Second Team selection for No. 4 singles, while the duo of Pepper and Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) were also named to the Second Team for No. 2 doubles.

The Dolphins defeated the Panthers earlier than this year on October 2 in Syracuse by a score of 5-2, and Le Moyne have won the last three meetings between the two schools, but dating back to September of 2015 both sides have a 4-4 record against one another. The last time the two women's tennis programs met in the NE10 Conference Championships was on October 25, 2019, when Le Moyne knocked off the top-seeded Panthers in the tournament semifinals.
