ROHRHIRSCH SCORES TWICE TO GIVE MEN'S SOCCER A THRILLING 2-1 WIN OVER SAINT MICHAEL'S ON SENIOR DAY

Syracuse, N.Y. - Graduate forward Robert Rohrhirsch (Garching bei München, Germany/Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching/Munich University of Applied Sciences) scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season during the second half of the Le Moyne Dolphins men's soccer match against the visiting Saint Michael's Purple Knights to give the Dolphins a 2-1 NE10 Conference victory at Ted Grant Field on senior day.

Le Moyne found themselves in a 1-0 hole at halftime after conceding in the 13th minute of the match when Miguel Diaz chased down an errant pass from a Dolphins defender back to the goalkeeper, collected the loose ball in the Dolphins penalty area, and from about 12 yards out put a shot past Le Moyne goalkeeper Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and into the back of the net to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead.

Le Moyne controlled possession for most of the first half, but Saint Michael's held their defensive shape and withstood repeated Dolphins attacking buildup to enter the halftime break with a one goal lead.

The Dolphins came out with a sense of urgency in the second half, and got their equalizing goal in the 49th minute. Michael Sparkes (Glasgow, Scotland/St. Ninians) made a run down the left touchline and just before he reached the goal line sent a cross towards the middle of the penalty area where Rohrhirsch struck the ball one-time out of the air with the instep of his right boot from eight yards out, placing it in the upper right corner of the net, where Saint Michael's goalkeeper Mathias Loft could not get to it, to tie the game at 1-1.

Le Moyne kept the pressure on after recording the equalizer. In the 54th minute Rohrhirsch received a pass about 30 yards out with his back to goal. He flicked the ball behind him, high in the air towards the goal, into the path of Joe Falcone (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) running diagonal from the left wing into the Purple Knights 18-yard box. Falcone got on the ball, and from the top left side of the penalty area sent a pass back to Rohrhirsch to his right. Rohrhirsch's first touch, from the edge of the 18-yard box, was a shot with his right foot that flew beyond the diving Loft and into the back of the net to give the Dolphins a 2-1 lead.

Mahr made three saves during the match for the Dolphins, the most important one coming with under three minutes remaining in the second half when Saint Michael's Kyle Brady made a long run towards goal and from the top of the 18-yard box ripped a shot with his left foot that Mahr dove to his left to save.

Le Moyne head coach Tom Bonus, while unhappy with his team's play in the first half, was content to come away with the win on senior day.

"We challenged them at halftime, and I think they came out and responded the right way. Ultimately I don't think we played a great game today, but we found a way to grind it out and get the three points and get the win. I was really happy for the seniors, I've formed a real bond with a lot of the seniors that have been with me over these years, so it's always good to go out the right way on senior day." said Bonus after the match.

The Le Moyne College men's soccer team (8-5-0, 5-4-0 NE10) will travel to North Easton, Massachusetts to take on Stonehill College on Wednesday, October 27 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
