SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS SWEEP SAINT MICHAEL’S

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College swimming and diving teams combined for 24 wins en route to sweeping Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon at Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool. The women won 169-87 and the men were 173-117 victors.
 
The quartet of redshirt freshmen Grace Thomas (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Jessica Testone (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), senior Mikael Ann Melfi (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands) and junior Caitlyn Longway (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay by over two seconds with a time of 1:55.26.

Freshman Hannah Kellogg (Cazenovia, N.Y./Chittenango) was victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle by almost 21 seconds with a time of 11:11.79.

Redshirt freshman Lily Buchholz (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) topped the field in the 200-yard freestyle by almost five seconds with a time of 2:06.44.

Thomas won both of the backstroke events. She claimed the 100-yard backstroke by over three seconds with a time of 1:00.26. In the 200-yard backstroke, she won by almost eight seconds with a time of 2:13.21.

Melfi swept the two breaststroke events. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.08 to win by just 0.34 seconds. She later was victorious in the 200-yard breaststroke by almost three seconds with a time of 2:41.79.

Redshirt freshman Veronika Nelson (Vernon Center, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) captured the 200-yard butterfly by almost 10 seconds with a time of 2:27.42.

Longway placed first in the 50-yard freestyle by 1.35 seconds with a time of 24.85 seconds. She placed first in the 100-yard butterfly by 4.44 seconds with a time of 1:03.16.

Senior Jordyn Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) claimed the 100-yard freestyle by just 0.03 seconds with a time of 58.86 seconds.
 
Junior Madison Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) topped the field in the 500-yard freestyle by almost 14 seconds with a time of 5:47.85.
 
On the men's side, freshmen Dominic Fratto (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Belal Hamad (Syracuse, N.Y./PSAL at Fowler), redshirt freshman Ryan McMahon (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and senior Brandon Bardin (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) won the 200-yard medley relay by 0.7 seconds in 1:42.29 to open the meet.

McMahon tallied a pair of individual victories on the afternoon. He touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle by over 13 seconds with a time of 10:50.72. He won the 200-yard breaststroke by just under two seconds with a time of 2:22.86.

Hamad claimed the 200-yard freestyle by over 10 seconds by touching the wall in 1:47.72. He later won the 100-yard butterfly by just under one second with a time of 56.25 seconds.

Senior Ben Cisco (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke by over two seconds with a time of 1:03.44.

Junior Joseph Malone (Merrick, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham/SUNY Old Westbury) won the 200-yard butterfly by less than a second with a time of 2:07.07. He was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:10.60 to win by over eight seconds.

Redshirt freshman Logan Bronecki (Hemlock, N.Y. / Livonia) recorded a pair of victories. He won by three-quarters of a second with a time of 23:04 in the 50-yard freestyle. He won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.02 seconds to top the field by 0.2 seconds.

Freshman Justin Byrne (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) won both of the one-meter diving events. In the first one, he registered a score of 167.20 for the victory. He posted 260.95 points to win the second event.

The Dolphins are back in the pool on Sunday, October 31 at Bentley University at 2:00 p.m.
