MEN'S SOCCER REMAINS UNBEATEN WITH 3-1 WIN AT ADELPHI

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne college men's soccer team earned a big road win during their first conference game of the season against Adelphi University on Saturday evening. The #24 ranked Dolphins received goals from first year forward Michael Sparkes (Glasgow, Scotland/St. Ninians), graduate student Robert Rohrhirsch (Garching bei München, Germany/Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching/Munich University of Applied Sciences) and redshirt freshman Noah Sperduto (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) to defeat the Panthers 3-1.

In the fifth minute graduate student goalkeeper Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) was called into action for the Dolphins, making a save on a shot attempt from Adelphi senior forward Paolo Marciano to keep the match scoreless. Mahr made three saves in the first half and two more in the second half.

Sparkes broke the tie in the 19th minute with a goal, his second of the year, to put the Dolphins up 1-0.

Mahr made another save on a Marciano shot attempt with 20 minutes remaining in the first half to keep the Le Moyne lead intact.

Le Moyne junior forward Owen Bauer (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/UNC Asheville) took a shot on goal in the 37th minute, but Adelphi goalkeeper Harry Beasley was able to come up with the save.

Mahr was able to stop an Aidan Keenan shot on goal in the last minute of the first half, sending the Dolphins into the locker room with a 1-0 lead at half.

Seven minutes into the second half Rohrhirsch put the ball in the back of the Adelphi net to extend the Le Moyne advantage to 2-0.

Rohrhirsch put another shot on frame in the 54th minute but this time Beasley made the save.

Mahr made his two second half saves in the 68th minute on a Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca shot attempt, and in the 71st minute when he stopped a shot by sophomore defender Benji Jones.

The Panthers cut the deficit in half in the 62rd minute when their pressure on the Le Moyne defense led to an own-goal, putting the Panthers within striking distance at a 2-1 disadvantage.

Adelphi took eight shots throughout the second half, but could not come up with the equalizing goal. In the 85th minute, Sperduto effectively put the game away with a Le Moyne insurance goal off a Tom Henne (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Buckhorn) assist to enlarge their lead to 3-1.

Following the win the Dolphins improved to 4-0-0 on the season with a 1-0-0 conference resume. The Panthers drop to 1-3-1 and 0-1-0 in conference competition.

The Dolphins return to Ted Grant Field on Wednesday, September 22 at 4:00 PM to host a Northeast-10 Conference matchup against American International College.
