WOMEN’S GOLF TIES FOR SECOND PLACE AT NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Southwick, Mass. – Sophomore Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) placed fifth to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a tie for second place at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday and Monday at the par-72, 5804-yard The Ranch Golf Club.

The Dolphins, who finished in second place last year, closed out the two rounds with a score of 673 to finish in a tie with Adelphi University. The Dolphins recorded a 339 in the first round to land in third place. They followed with a 334 on Monday to move into the tie for second place.

Franklin Pierce University won its fourth consecutive NE10 Championship with a 36-hole total of 625. The Ravens opened with a 315 and followed with a 310. Adelphi got to its total of 673 off rounds of 325 and 348. Ilaria Ponziani claimed individual medalist honors with a one-over par total of 145 after carding a three-under 69 and a 76.
 
Avotins, who placed sixth last year, registered a 157 at the Championship for the second straight year. The 157 is the third-best by a Dolphin at the conference championship, while her fifth-place finish is the highest for a Dolphin since Bianca Cruz-Hernandez finished second in 2019. She opened with an 82 to land in a four-way tie for seventh place. She followed with a career best-tying 75 to move up two places and earn a spot on the All-Championship Team.

Freshman Thais Forbes (Atlanta, Ga./Coral Gables (Fla.)) registered an eighth-place finish with a 163. She tallied a 79 in the first round to place fifth and then carded an 84 on Monday.

Graduate student Meghan McKeen (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) finished in 14th place with a 174, her second-best score in five NE10 Championship appearances. She posted an 84 on the first day to land in 12th place and then turned in a 90 on Tuesday.

Freshman Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tied for 18th place with a 179. She recorded a 94 on Sunday and then carded an 85, the third-best mark of her career, to move up seven spots in the standings.

Senior Elyse Maniccia (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) recorded a 193 to place 27th following rounds of 96 and 97.

The Dolphins completed their Fall schedule and will resume competition in the Spring.
