Rehoboth Beach, Del. – Freshman
Caroline McShea (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) registered the best scores by a freshman in the program's history to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a 13th-place finish at the Battle at the Creek hosted by Sacred Heart University at the par-71, 5805-yard Kings Creek Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Bucknell University won the team championship with a 54-hole score of 899 after recording rounds of 297, 295 and 307. Columbia University placed second at 901 off scores of 291, 302 and 308. Lehigh University finished third at 923 following rounds of 293, 313 and 317. Columbia's Kristina Xu earned medalist honors with a five-over 218 after rounds of one-over 72, one-over 72 and 74.
The Dolphins placed 13th with a total of 981, the third-best 54-hole score in the program's history, after registering rounds of a program-best 311, 324 and 346. The 311 in the first round eclipsed the previous 18-hole record of 315 set at Youngstown State's Roseann Schwartz Invitational last September, while the team's 635 after the second round was the second-best 36-hole score in the program's history (trailing the 630 at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational).
McShea tied for 27th place in the field of 89 competitors with a 236, which included five birdies and 25 pars. She opened with a 75, which featured two birdies and 10 pars, to land in a nine-way tie for 19th place. She followed with a 79 in the afternoon round, which included three birdies and six pars, to land in a three-way tie for 26th at 154. She tallied nine pars in the third round en route to an 82 to finish in the tie for 27th place.
McShea's 75 in the first round is the best mark by a freshman in the program's history, eclipsing the 76 by Lauren Kase '20 on September 25, 2016 at the NE10 Championship. Her 154 through 36 holes is the best score by a freshman in the program's history and she is just the third Dolphin in the program's history (Bianca Cruz-Hernandez '20 and
Mia Avotins '25) to record a 154 or better through 36 holes. The previous best mark by a freshman over 36 holes of 156 was set by Kase at the aforementioned 2016 NE10 Championship. McShea's 236 over the 54 holes is the best by a Dolphin freshman in the program's history and the fourth-best mark overall. She had the previous-best mark by a freshman with a 243 at Bucknell nine days ago.
Junior
Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) finished in a three-way tie for 47th place with a total of 245, which included two birdies and 25 pars. She opened with a 76, which is tied for the second-best round of her career and featured two birdies and 10 pars, to land in a four-way tie for 28th place. She tallied an 81 in the second round, which included eight pars, to finish the day in a five-way tie for 40th. She slipped to the tie for 47th with an 88 on Tuesday, which featured seven pars.
Freshman
Elizabeth Holden (Clinton, Maine/Lawrence) placed 50th with a 246, which is the fourth-best total by a Dolphin freshman and included three birdies and 20 pars. She carded an 80, featuring one birdie and eight pars, to finish the first round in a seven-way tie for 47th place. She was in a three-way tie for 57th after an 82 in the second round, which included eight pars. She posted two birdies and four pars in the third round on her way to an 84 to move up the standings.
Senior
Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tied for 73rd place with a 262, which included 16 pars. She was in a four-way tie for 69th place after an 85 in the first round, which featured seven pars. She tallied another 85, including six pars, in the second round to land in a three-way tie for 73rd place. She moved to the two-way tie for 73rd with an 92 on Tuesday.
Sophomore
Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) did not place after being unable to compete on Tuesday. She was part of the seven-way tie for 47th with Holden after recording an 80 in the first round, which included one birdie and eight pars. She had another birdie and eight pars in the afternoon on her way to an 82, which landed her in another tie with Holden.
Junior
Cambell Kennedy (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa), who played as an individual, placed 72nd with a career-best 259, which included three birdies and 17 pars. She was in a tie for 81st place following a 91 in the first round, which included five pars. She moved into a tie for 78th with an 85 in the afternoon, when she had two birdies and four pars. She tallied an 83, including one birdie and eight pars, in the final round to move up another six spots.
The Dolphins return to the links on Monday for 36 holes at Boston College's Red Bandanna Invitational at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, Massachusetts.
