MEN'S SOCCER SET TO COMPETE IN NE10 CHAMPIONSHIPS ON SATURDAY

10/28/2022 1:33:00 PM

New Haven, Conn. – The Le Moyne College men's soccer program will compete in its 21st consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Saturday when this year's group travels to Southern Connecticut State University to take on the Owls in the conference tournament quarterfinals. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

The Dolphins have dealt with injuries to important players throughout the campaign, but the team was able to earn the 7th seed in the NE10 Championships in large part due to two very important wins over #21 Adelphi and Saint Anselm towards the end of the regular season.

Two-time NE10 All-Conference selection Tom Henne (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Buckhorn) has been an important part of the 'Phins late-season surge after the team began their conference schedule with a 1-3-4 record. Henne and fellow graduate center midfielder Terence Crysler-Howard (Toronto, Ontario/Toronto Prep School) have been vital for the team in the middle of the pitch.

Henne scored the first goal of Le Moyne's massive 3-0 victory over #21 Adelphi, then the graduate center midfielder scored the game-winning goal against Saint Anselm on Senior Day. Henne has a total of three goals and one assist so far this season in 13 games started.

Graduate goalkeeper Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), who like Henne has been an NE10 All-Conference selection twice so far in his Le Moyne career, was instrumental in the team's important 1-0 win over Saint Anselm, accumulating six saves to record his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Freshman forward Cameron Stuart (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) led the Dolphins in points during the regular season, compiling five goals and four assists during 15 appearances, including 11 starts.

Alessandro Otte (Suderburg, Germany/Herzog-Ernst-Gymnasium Uelzen/Hochschule Wismar) has tallied three goals in 2022, and has played over 1,100 minutes during his first season as a Dolphin.

Brett Stern (Lockport, N.Y./Newfane/Duquesne), Ben Quigley (Perth, Scotland/Community School of Auchterarder/University of Stirling), and Jack Goodrich (Kelsall, England/King's School Chester) have each played over 1,200 minutes this season as important members of Le Moyne's back line.

The Southern Connecticut State University Owls finished the regular season with a 6-3-2 record against NE10 opponents, which earned them the 2nd seed and a home game in the Northeast-10 Championships.

SCSU closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win at AIC followed by a 4-0 win at Bentley. Sophomore midfielder Yannick Hilpert leads the Owls in goals with eight to go along with one assist. Sophomore forward Leroy Best has tallied three goals and seven assists in 2022, while freshman forward Karim Said has contributed three goals and four assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Juan Devin has started all 16 games this season for Southern Connecticut State during which he's accumulated 69 saves.

During the meeting between Le Moyne and SCSU during the 2022 regular season, the Dolphins held a 2-0 lead at halftime on the road, but the Owls scored twice during the final 45 minutes to record a 2-2 tie on their home field.

Le Moyne bested SCSU 3-0 during the 2021 season, but the Owls claimed a 4-3 win on their home field against the Dolphins in 2019.

Le Moyne claimed a 1-0 win over the Owls on Ted Grant Field in October of 2018, and prior to that the 'Phins recorded a 2-1 win at Southern Connecticut State in 2017.

The last time Southern Connecticut State University and Le Moyne College met in the Men's Soccer Northeast-10 Conference Championships was the 2009 tournament final, during which Le Moyne bested the Owls 2-1 to claim the NE10 crown. Le Moyne's Angelo Reina and Bryce Martin scored the goals during that Le Moyne victory.
