Philadelphia, P.A. – The Le Moyne College baseball team split their doubleheader with the Jefferson Rams in Philadelphia on Monday afternoon.
The Dolphins won the first game of the day by a score of 17-13. The Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the 7
th during game number two to claim a 7-6 victory via a walk-off base hit.
During the high-scoring first game, seven different Le Moyne batters recorded at least one RBI.
Junior center fielder
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame), senior infielder
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and senior shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) each drove in three runs during the win.
Carroll went 4-4 at the plate during the first game with a walk, five runs scored, three RBIs, and was a triple away from hitting for the cycle. He belted a double in the first inning, then drove a two-run homerun over the left field fence during the top of the 6
th.
Senior first baseman
Ty Syta (Hamburg, N.Y./St. Francis) recorded two RBIs via two sacrifice flies to center field.
Graduate starting left-handed pitcher
Joe Vail (Cromwell, Conn./Xavier) threw 3.0 innings, sophomore right-hander
Kennen Smith (Poughquag, N.Y./Arlington) recorded two strikeouts in one inning of work to earn the pitching-decision win.
Sophomore right-hander
Matt Tarby (Liverpool, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) pitched 2.0 innings in relief and did not allow an earned run.
Junior righty
Sam DiGeorge (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) got the final out of the game to earn the save.
The Dolphins were down 8-3 at the end of the 4
th and scored eight runs during the top of the 5
th inning to take an 11-8 lead.
Junior right-hander
Jacob Marshall (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) started game two on the mound for the 'Phins and went 4.2 innings.
Brush went 2-4 at the plate in the second game of the afternoon with a double and two runs scored.
Carroll followed up his 4-4 performance in game one with one hit, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored during game number two.
Le Moyne held a 4-1 lead after the top of the 5
th in the second game of the doubleheader, but the Rams scored three runs during the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 4-4.
Le Moyne took a 6-4 lead in the top of the 7
th, but Jefferson scored three runs in the bottom of the 7
th and won the game 7-6.
The Le Moyne College baseball will travel to Bloomsburg University to take on the Huskies on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. EST.
