Bloomsburg, P.A. The Le Moyne College baseball team improved their record to 7-8 by earning a 16-14 victory on the road against Blooomsburg University on Tuesday. The game was called after the 7
th inning due to darkness.
Sophomore catcher/designated hitter
Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) had a career day at the plate for the 'Phins. Fureno smashed his first career homerun, a two-run shot during the top of the 2
nd inning and finished the game a perfect 3-3 from the plate with a walk, a hit by pitch, and four RBI's. Fureno's three hits and four RBIs are both single game career-highs.
Ty Syta (Hamburg, N.Y./St. Francis) also tallied three hits and a team-high four RBIs during the victory. Syta's four RBIs was also a single-game career-high for the senior first baseman.
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) set a career-high in stolen bases during the 'Phins win. Brush swiped three bags, scored two runs, went 3-4 at the plate, drew two walks and ripped a double.
Senior infielder
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)) went 2-6 at the plate with two runs scored, one stolen base and an RBI.
Graduate right fielder
Michael Smith (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) went 3-5 with two runs scored, a double and an RBI.
Graduate catcher
Drew Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) recorded two RBIs, drew two walks, scored a run, and recorded a hit during the high-scoring victory.
Jed Boyle (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) made his second appearance of the season for the 'Phins in relief on Tuesday. Boyle pitched the final 2.2 innings of the contest to earn the win. The junior right-hander did not allow a run or a hit, walked one batter and struck out five.
Le Moyne scored five runs in the top of the 2
nd inning, including
Brady Fureno's two-run homer after Smith led off the inning with a single.
Bloomsburg took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the 3
rd inning, then the Dolphins scored three runs in the top of the 4
th to give themselves a 9-7 advantage.
Bloomsburg scored four runs in the bottom of the 4
th, then Le Moyne tied the game at 11-11 in the top of the 5
th.
Bloomsburg scored three runs in the bottom of the 5
th, and then Le Moyne scored five runs in the top of the 6
th to take a 16-14 lead, which is how the game would end.
The Le Moyne College baseball team will play a three-game series at Seton Hill University against the Griffins on March 18, 19, and 20.
