Shippensburg, P.A. – The Le Moyne College baseball team claimed their first series win of the season after taking both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Shippensburg. After dropping the first game of the weekend 6-0, the 'Phins won three straight against the Raiders to complete their first full four-game weekend series of the season. Both wins on Sunday afternoon were decided by one run. The 'Phins took game one of the doubleheader by a score of 4-3, then earned a 2-1 victory over the Raiders during game number two.
Jacob Marshall (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) pitched all seven innings and recorded 10 strikeouts for Le Moyne in game one to earn the win and improve his record on the season to 2-0.
Jacob Maser (Chittenango, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)) went the distance on the mound in game number two to earn the win for the 'Phins. In 7.0 innings of work, Maser conceded just one run, did not allow a walk, and struck out nine batters.
"After dropping a few one-run games the last few weeks, the guys showed some grit and found ways to win two today. Some timely hitting and two great performances on the mound by Marshall and Maser led us to a series win against a very good Shippensburg team," said Le Moyne Head Coach

Shippensburg scored two runs during the bottom of the 1
st inning via a bunt single, a walk, a ground ball, a walk, and a single up the middle, but senior first baseman
Ty Syta (Hamburg, N.Y./St. Francis) was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the 2
nd, and graduate third baseman
Derrick Miller (Westernville, N.Y./Rome Free Academy/Hudson Valley C.C.) double into left field to put runners on second and third for Le Moyne with nobody out.
A wild pitch brought Syta home to score, and a double from graduate right fielder
Michael Smith (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) knocked in Miller to tie the game at 2-2.

Drew Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) poked a single into left field that advanced Smith to third base. After a failed pick-off attempt, Smith dashed across home plate to give the 'Phins a 3-2 lead.
Marshall recorded two strikeouts during a 1-2-3 bottom of the 2
nd, but the Raiders hit two doubles during the bottom of the third to score a run and tie the game at 3-3.
Le Moyne put a runner in scoring position during the top of the 4
th, but Shippensburg sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Kaleb Sophy got a ground ball to end the inning.
Marshall shut the Raiders down with a 1-2-3 bottom of the 4
th.
Le Moyne senior second baseman
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)) worked a 3-2 count and drew a one-out walk in the top of the 5
th inning. Fellow senior middle infielder
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) stepped to the plate next as Le Moyne's three-hitter, and the shortstop pulled a single through the right side of the infield to move Carroll to second base.
Syta drove a single into left center that brought Carroll around to score from second base and gave the 'Phins a 4-3 advantage.
In the bottom of the 5
th, Marshall recorded a three-pitch strikeout, then got a first pitch flyout, and then another three-pitch strikeout to put the bats right back in the 'Phins hands.
Le Moyne put runners on second and third in the top of the 6
th, but Sophy got a foul ball flyout to end the inning.
Shippensburg put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the 6
th, but Marshall continued to battle, recording a strikeout on a 3-2 count, then getting a pop up to end the inning.
Nevins doubled in the top of the 7
th, but the Dolphins were unable to knock him in.
Down to their final three outs and facing a one-run deficit, Shippensburg graduate outfielder JuJu Cason doubled down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the 7
th inning for the Raiders, but Marshall finished his complete game with a strikeout, a ground ball, and another strikeout to secure the first win of the day for Le Moyne.
Junior center fielder
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) hit a double into left field to lead off game number two of the doubleheader, but Shippensburg junior right-handed starting pitcher Noah Nabholz got out of the top of the 1
st without allowing a run.
Drew Fureno threw out two different runners attempting to steal second base during the bottom of the 1
st. The second throw down, a 2-4 caught stealing putout, ended the inning.
Michael Smith drew a one-out walk in the top of the 2
nd, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Drew Fureno was hit by a pitch, which put runners on first and third for Le Moyne and brought designated hitter
Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) to the plate. Fureno fell into a 1-2 count, then fouled off four consecutive pitches and took a ball to move the count to 2-2. On the ninth pitch of the at-bat, Fureno went and got a low-and-away pitch and sent the ball into left field for an RBI base hit to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.
Maser allowed an infield single to lead off the bottom of the third, then struck out three straight Shippensburg batters to end the inning.
A one-out RBI double in the bottom of the 4
th from Shippensburg sophomore catcher Andrew Chronister tied the game at 1-1. Maser got back-to-back groundouts to end the inning.
Le Moyne took the lead right back in the top of the 5
th.
Carroll led off the inning with a single into right field, then stole second base to put a runner in scoring position with zero outs.
Nevins was hit by a pitch, and Syta hit a ground ball to the right side to advance both runners.
With men on second and third, Miller drove a fly ball deep into right field for an RBI SAC fly, bringing Carroll home to score and giving the 'Phins a 2-1 lead.
Maser allowed a lead off single in the bottom of the 5
th, then once again struck out three straight Shippensburg batters to get out of the inning.
In the bottom of the 7
th, with the 'Phins holding on to a 2-1 lead, Maser got two ground balls and a strikeout to complete his day's work with a 1-2-3 inning and secure the second victory of the day for Le Moyne.
The Le Moyne College baseball team will be back in action next weekend for two doubleheaders against Jefferson in Philadelphia.
