Albany, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College baseball team split their Sunday afternoon Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at The College of Saint Rose.
The Dolphins earned a 11-0 win during game one, then fell 21-1 to the Golden Knights during game two.
Junior right-handed starting pitcher
Jacob Marshall (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) delivered his third consecutive seven-inning complete-game shutout during the game one victory. Marshall allowed just four hits during 7.0 innings of work and recorded seven strikeouts.
Michael Smith (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) went 3-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and two RBI during the 11-0 Le Moyne win, and
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)) provided two RBI to the Le Moyne cause.
Eight different Le Moyne hitters recorded an RBI during the game one win.
The Golden Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings during game two, then scored five runs in the 4
th and eight more in the 5
th on their way to a 21-1 victory.
Neither team scored during the first two innings in game one, then the Dolphins put up seven runs during the top of the 3
rd.
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) reached base safely to lead off the 3
rd inning, then Carroll was walked and
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with zero outs.
Brush scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0, then
Ty Stya (Hamburg, N.Y./St. Francis) was walked to re-load the bases.
Smith drew an RBI walk, then
Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) ripped an RBI single into right field to put the 'Phins up 3-0.
Derrick Miller (Westernville, N.Y./Rome Free Academy/Hudson Valley C.C.) and then Brush both drew RBI walks, then Carroll ripped a two-RBI single into center field to make it 7-0.
Brush and Nevins walked, then Syta,
Nick Hansen (Troy, N.Y./La Salle Institute/Hudson Valley C.C.) and Smith each recorded a single during the top of the 5
th as Le Moyne added three more runs to their lead.
Drew Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to center field during the top of the 7
th to give Le Moyne their 11
th and final run of the contest.
The Le Moyne College baseball team will return home for a Northeast-10 Conference battle against American International College on Wednesday at Dick Rockwell Field.
