BASEBALL FINISHES WEEKEND SERIES AT SCSU WITH A WIN

New Haven, C.T. – The Le Moyne College baseball team earned their second victory of the weekend during the first half of Sunday's doubleheader at Southern Connecticut State University. Le Moyne defeated the Owls 6-1 in the first game of the afternoon, then the two sides were tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 2nd inning during game number two when the contest was suspended due to rain.

Graduate left-hander Joe Vail (Cromwell, Conn./Xavier) allowed just one run in 6.0 innings of work on the mound for the 'Phins to earn the win, and junior right-hander Jed Boyle (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) pitched the final inning to close the game.

Senior left fielder Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany) went 3-4 at the plate with three runs scored during the victory, while senior shortstop Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) ripped an RBI double, and sophomore left fielder Jason Boule (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) went 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.

The 'Phins opened the game's scoring during the top of the 1st inning.

Junior center fielder Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) drew a walk to lead off the game and a balked advanced him to second base.

A Drew Carroll single moved Brush over to third, and Carroll stole second base during the next at bat.

Senior first baseman Ty Syta (Hamburg, N.Y./St. Francis) ripped a single into left field to drive in Brush, and Boule hit another RBI single down the left field line during the next at-bat to drive in Carroll and give the 'Phins an early 2-0 lead.

Carroll led off the top of the 3rd with a walk, then Nevins hit a ground ball to the right side of the infield to move Carroll into scoring position. Carroll advanced to third base on a passed ball, and after a Syta walk Boule once again ripped a single down the left field line to drive in Carroll. This time Boule's RBI made it 3-0 in favor of the Dolphins.

Southern Connecticut State got a run back in the bottom of the 3rd, but Le Moyne added another run in the top of the 5th.

In the top of the 6th inning Carroll hit a one-out single up the middle, then Nevins hit a double into left-center field that brought Carroll around to score for the third time, making it 5-1 Le Moyne.
The Dolphins scored their final run of the game in the top of the 7th.

Michael Smith (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) led off the final inning of the game with a double, then Drew Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) dropped down a bunt single to put runners on first and third with zero outs.

Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) walked to load the bases, then Derrick Miller (Westernville, N.Y./Rome Free Academy/Hudson Valley C.C.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to extend his team's lead to 6-1.

Boyle got the final three outs in the bottom of the 7th to secure the win for the 'Phins.

The Le Moyne College baseball team will return to Syracuse to battle D'Youville College on Tuesday, April 5 at Dick Rockwell Field.
