Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Le Moyne College women's and men's cross country team competed at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational today hosted by Vassar College. The women's team placed fifth overall and the men's team placed sixth. Redshirt sophomore
Sophia Bisognano (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) finished in nineteenth place to lead the women's team. Redshirt sophomore
Matt Bartolotta (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) finished in 42nd place to lead the men's team.
"We had some good things happen today," said head coach
Robin Wheeless. "The races were very competitive at Vassar. I was very happy to see our comprehension from first to fifth improve for both the men and the women this week. I was especially happy with the women's improvement. They went from over two minutes to under 50 seconds. I had a few people that deserved a shout out.
Sophia Bisognano led the women's team. Both
Anita Jepchirchir and
Maggie Casey were much improved over last week. It was also exciting to see
Emma Gepfert make her collegiate debut. Freshman
Chelsea Dennison also finished in our top 6. On the men's side,
Max Serling stood out with an excellent run.
Adin Potter also made it into our top 5. I'm more people will step up as the season develops. I love to see them striving to improve."
For the women's five-kilometer course, Vassar College took the win with a score of 41 points, followed in second by NYU with 46 points, then in third New Paltz scored 100 points, fourth came Marywood with 121 and Le Moyne scored 124 points to land in fifth place.
Bisognano placed 19th with a time of 21:07.7 and two places behind her in 21st place was sophomore
Anita Jepchirchir (Eldoret, Kenya) with a time of 21:18.6. In 29th place was sophomore
Hilda Kiprono (Eldoret, Kenya/Kapsabet Girls High School) with a time of 21:33.1, followed by senior
Maggie Casey (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon), who placed in 30th with a time of 21:35.3. Freshman
Emma Gepfert (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) placed 35th with a time of 21:56.1.
Vassar took the win at home for the men's six-kilometer course scoring 30 points, followed in second place by NYU with 69 points. Marywood placed third with 74 points, SUNY Delhi came in fourth place with 84 points, Ramapo scored 104 points and Le Moyne registered 183 points to land in sixth.
Bartolotta lead the Dolphins finishing in 42nd place with a time of 21:20.8, followed by senior
Maxwell Serling (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) finishing in 46th place with a time of 21:36.8. Sophomore
Evan Breitbeck (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) placed 53rd with a time of 22:08.5, sophomore
Jack Gibson (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) came in 55th place with a time of 22:20.5 and freshman
Adin Potter (Taberg, N.Y./Camden Central) landed in 61st with a time of 22:41.8.
The Dolphins will be traveling to Rochester, N.Y. and the Matt St. James Cross Country Trails on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, September 24
th for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational.
